66 SD Beaumont Rag for sale (Question)


For sale on FB. Just noticed it looks like factory PW? Think I see a switch on the rear armrest. Don't think I've ever seen one. Factory or add on??

Yes, that is correct on A body convertibles 64-67 I believe.

I think 64-66 it was on the armrest, 67 on the trim panel. A rare option back then.

 I've spent some time looking at 67 Pontiac, Chev, Olds and Buick A body pictures online. So far I've found the Pontiac and Chevy and Buick A body use the armrest switch, Olds used the inner panel mounted switch. I wonder why they would vary like this?

Hmm. And as I keep looking I've found Cutlass pictures with the switch mounted on the panel or the switch mounted on the armrest. Clearly some of them are restored incorrectly.

 What I had seen were the '67s rear switches in a different position. Carl made the observation that some are restored incorrectly. Kits are available to add power windows and I guess that some liberties are taken during the installation.

 

It is hard to find Chevelle or Beaumont convertibles with factory power windows, therefore reference pictures are also hard to come by. I did dig one out from an old drive because I had to go back in time. Guess what? I apparently was wrong. When I finally found some reference it was on a Capri Cream '67 SD396 convertible with buckets, column shifted TH400, power windows. Odd.

Here's evidence to prove I'm wrong:

One side note, when I converted my 64 GTO (clone) convertible to power windows I remember that the armrest already has the cutout for the switch in it even on manual window cars. They simply just upholstered right over that hole when the car was built with manual. It made it easy to mount the switch, just trim the vinyl and push the switch into the armrest.

Thanks.... I was wondering and thought the rear switch should be on the panel not the armrest. Now I know!! Another informative answer on CP!

Not a great picture but this is a convertible rear armest panel picture I took off an ebay auction and circled where the vinyl would be cut if the car had power windows. The metal part is always cut, the vinyl part is cut if a switch is installed.

I thought the Fisher Body manual showed it, but apparently not. I thought the Assembly Manual showed it but it was only to show the relay. No pictures of switches.

The closest illustration I could find for a '67 Beaumont convertible:
