Acadian Delco starter question

I was going through the starter today that will go on my Acadian. New drive, bushings, solenoid etc. I see a threaded hole that is wide open in the main housing. I put a stubby 5/16" bolt in it, just to plug the hole. I see no purpose for it. Anyone know what it is for? It's the shiny head bolt near the end of the solenoid (the end the electrical attatches to).

Nope, this is one of those new fangled oil-less starters...

I don't pay anything for the technical assistance I get on this board, and so far with this question and that answer I got my money's worth!!!

can't quite see it carl, but is that where the brace bolts to for a 6 cyl. application? it looks like a light duty starter, short winding, straight across bolts for small flywheel.

It is the light starter, yes. But I thought the brace always went on the end bolt, the one with the stud sticking out, which is always on top. I don't think I've ever seen the brace mount directly to the main body. Always a first time though.

Nobody?

There has to be an easy answer to this, but I'm drawing a blank as to what it could be for.

6 cyl brace...
check this picture, the brace is missing, boss/hole in the block at the dipstick tube base is where it would mount/bolt to.

Thank you!

A technician at work told me yesterday that is what it is for. I forgot to post the answer here.

I should have known, because my Acadian was a 6 when I got it.
