Double up on the gaskets. Should work, you might have to get rid of the baffle on the inside. Trial fit it for sure.

Use the Comp Steel ones, not aluminum, and use a double thick gasket and you will be fine. I have that combo in mine with L79 valve covers.

Less friction and heat....thus more horsepower. Potential for increased cam lift and duration, depending on ratio....thus more horsepower (depending on flow capabilities of heads).

Bragging rights? Absolutely. wink

here`s what i`am up too!i have a nice original 64`beaumont custom 4 dr.factory V8 283 a sweet ride but i want to make it a bit of a sleeper! but keep it stock looking under the hood. kicking around idea`s i really didn`t want to touch the smooth running 283! in my garage i have a 350 that i pulled out of my 80 gmc van before i scrapped it. over the years i picked up a pair of 68`291 casting 202 heads.l79 cam 68`cast q-jet intake double roller chain 350 flat top pistons.the only thing left is the rockers.i want to use the 283 valve covers with the "283 econoflame"decals.i no the roller tips will fit but if the full roller will also fit why not!!any input would be much appreciated.i will be posting pictures after paint.o`ya black wall`s with "doggies"love sleepers.

Sounds like a cool ride  keep at it... Here in Southern Ontario, we stick a "big block" in it....  something to do with "big dogs" I think?  lol

I like the plan... sbc all the way! unfortunately i sold all my sbc stuff, so i can't give you any specific dimensions... I run two gaskets on my bbc to clear roller rockers on stock height valve covers, summit also sells a 5/8" thick gasket. Personally to get a bit more out of it, i'd out in bigger domed pistons, and either a GM 2nd gen 'off-road' solid cam or a Duntov -097. With big wide lobe seperations to take advantage of the weaknesses on the exhaust side of the heads, and stock manifolds. I ran my 350 budget combo, with the GM off road cam, in a 3750# car to 13.6 in the quarter (with headers though).

For the motor you are building, you'd be much better off saving your $ and running new stock rockers. You wont see an improvement with rollers (unless you really step up the cam and springs).

One question, are you using stock exh. manifolds or headers? if you are using headers get rid of that cam, it'll hurt your performance (over a modern cam design, then go to a lunati voodoo 60103).

Any money you save on not buying roller rockers would be better spent porting stock exh. manifolds or having your qjet rebuilt at SMI.

I miss my 7500rpm 'fly-bys' on people with my sbc, to me it depends on how far you want to go... a simple 454, with 781 heads, can make 400-450hp easy and cheap, then you put 150 on the bottle, for $1500-2000 you are going to go pretty fast! If you want to go deep over 500hp, then its either big cubes or turbo'd LS1... thats a sleeper! 28MPG, sounds stock at idle, and dyno's 1400HP!!!!

There's a beaumont in wpg owned by a well known engine builder, 327, 194 heads, ported to hell and back (heads covered in welds!), 7" steel wheels, dog dishes, bench seat... i saw this car pull low 10s at the track, might have even been a high 9 (on spray)... a real sleeper... he also owns a fast 4dr. 4sp 'stock' 327 appearing car... with all 'old school' technology...

exhaust manifolds are going to choke the motor, i'd keep the combo you have and just put stock rockers on it (but buy new ones from a reputable company)...

you're next step is 406, with an old school set of Brodix -8's painted orange, a perf. rpm dual plane (grind off the logos, paint it orange), plumb NO2 under the manifold if you really want...but the 3" exhaust and the sound it'll make spanking the ground will be a bit of a give away...

sounds like you know your stuff.i`am running manifolds.do you think they`ll be a problem with the 64cc heads and flat tops for detination with todays low octain gas?

Depending on the cam, some of us have used the old school combo with the GM solid cam with 12.5:1 piston on pump gas no problem with distributors locked at 38 degrees... the cam bleeds off lots of cylinder pressure... really depends on how the pistons are sitting in the block, if you're not zero decking the block you'll probaby be more at like 9.5:1 or less...so you 'shoudn't' have a problem... if you put a newer tech cam in there you might have problems and not see any benefit as they really rely on the exhaust to flow.

those solid cams (like the LT1 or the 2nd generation off road) have big duration and bleed off compression...
