1968 beaumont air cleaner

Our '66 Beaumont was ordered new with the two tone trim without the two tone paint or vinyl roof. The firewalls were body colour until, and including 1968. Same with the Oshawa built Chevelles. The car also had the L34, which was the only 396 available in a Beaumont in '66. After '66 the Beaumont drive train mirrored the Chevelle. A friend had a '68 SD396 L35 car and it had the same breather as a '68 L35 SS396 Chevelle. Of course Beaumonts had their own breather emblems.

It originally came with QQ verdoro geen,and has a white top which is not on GM canada docs as CO8,still wondering if this was dealer install,also had 2-3 people say that it was factory when resto began because they said once top was removed the clips that were on there were from factory and dealers would'nt use those type of clips,any feedback from someone??

Thanks for your replies on the air cleaner,will try to put the one with single snorkel as the one like Bills.Anymore inputs would be much appreiated.

Welcome to the site Pat. Your car looks great. I like the white vinyl top, it really sets it off.
 The vinyl top was an expensive option to have installed at the factory so some dealers had them installed after they received the car. It saved them about $150 to do it this way. The D99 trim would be installed so the proper rivets would be on the car to hold the clips for the stainless trim. If not they would have to use screws.
 The air cleaner for the 325 HP 396 would have been the closed element type with either chrome or black lid depending if the car had chrome valve covers. There was no differencen in the air cleaner on a 4 speed car until 1969. If you post a picture of the bottom of your air cleaner I can tell you if it is for a 68 or a 69.
 If you are installing an original closed air cleaner the hard part to find is the shroud that goes around the right exhaust manifold.

{{is your 68 sd werners old car}}

I have the old ad from the auto trader clipped out when Werner was selling it , 8 years ago maybe?? I had contacted him , visited him in Calgary when I was there. I had thought he ended up never selling it , decided to keep it??

so , do we know if it is finished now?

I have an original 396-325hrs air cleaner in my shop with the original decal on the BLACK lid. It say Econo Jet, 396-325hrs and the decal is far from perfect however it is correct. I will have to get it off the wall to see what year it is according to the pictures on here. Its expensive however if you want it, send me an email. At some point I will take some pictures of it and post them. They may make a reproduction for a Chevelle, in which case all you would have to do is purchase the decals from Osborne, in the States, and apply them to same.
