65 Beaumont side body trim from DTstainless

well.  I got some photos today of the "repro" chrome that DTstainless made for a 66SD

for 2000.00 bucks.. I'm passing on the items.
the quality looks good, and without actually seeing them "in the flesh" I cant say for certain how they are.
Oh yeah.. and this price DOES NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING.

just my 2 bits.

Kelly

Kelico,

As stated in the email I sent you, these are pictures from the 66 SD beaumont trim. They in fact do have the tabs where as the 65 trim does not.
The corners may look sqaured but they are identical to the originals.
In comparing with the one picture to the original, take note that these pieces are not in mint condition and have been dented and experienced wear and tear over the decades.

Your absolutely right Carl. It's my bank account that's giving me a hard time right now. I'll probably end up going for it later this year.. but right now.. YIKES!! my 50000.00 car will have to wait for the better goodies. LOL!!
I appreciate The DTStainless guys doing the work for sure. I'm looking forward to someone getting a set and giving some input as to how they are.

So are we saying $2k for the 65 stuff as well?
My understanding was they were $2k for ALL the stainless on the car, not just the side pieces?
I can't go $2k for rocker trim either, but I might go $1k

I was expecting that this was going to be expensive. This is the way I look at it. I'll take three at a 1000.00 a piece. Kelly needs two, bud needs one, and another to market more. If they want to move them there is 7000.00 to get the ball moving. Do they realize that 66 gto stainless trim is really close to sd trim and could be modified to work and look pretty good. You can buy it brand new for 120.00 U.S. For that kind of money they would have to be exact repos and I would need to see a piece of one first before I bought. If I were them I would act soon before we loose interest or cast them ourselfs for less. Kelly there must be a better way. I would sooner see the real stuff on your car anyways, ( Flaws and all). Bud check out the 66 GTO trim. Cut and buff and they would look great. They would go good with the pontiac emblems on the seats and a 65 GTO am-fm radio too. Were not made of money.

Thanks Paul, I have a friend with a ton of GTO's and parts, I'll look into that trim.
I finally got a set of acadian letters for the trunk as well. Slow but sure, the puzzles coming together.

Hey Bud, the 66 is a one piece stainless trim, but they offer a smaller front fender trim on the net. I would section the longer gto trim to match the Beaumont. The gto trim is nicer anyway. I think it's a nice alternate to the real thing. Most of the originals are really junky. I saw a set of 66 gto rockers on ebay for 50.00, but he won't ship to Canada. Cut up a used set first and post the results. Have you found a set of sd emblems yet?

I can't answer that question. Sounds like your car was pricey. I noticed that you drilled your car for the original clips. Will the repos take the same clips or will they be a GTO clip mount. I would prefer a 3M tape mount with a solid flat back myself. My SD rag project is ruffly where your car is and I'm going to mount either trims, depending on which one I aquire with the tape. The holes just atract rust in my opinion. I couldn't bring myself to drill brand new panels. I would try to negotiate a group price between all of us if your set on the new stuff. Did you send your SD rocker trim to them for templates and if you did then they owe you. Good luck, Paul

I did send them Paul, and I dont think the word "Deal" is in they're vocabulary. even though I did send them the originals it sounds like the price is what it is, and there is no room for negotiations. go figure.

Hi again.

The trim attaches the same as the orignals did as they are copies.

They will attach with the same clips that the originals did.

We are asking that everyone who wants copies to be made, that they send in their trim unless we have a copy which we will posses on our own. We are not in this to cheat out anybody so we will not be making copies of sets for our use.

If you are requesting a set then you will have arrange to have the originals sent to us.

If anyone has questions please do not hesitate to contact me at taylor@dtstainless.com .

Thanks you.

-Taylor

And now they have a template for free. Bad business if you ask me. Have you tried a local stainless shop? Maybe there's another option. You would think that your high profile resto would be a great place to advertise there products. I wonder how long they will last?

What are you all fired up about? Talk to kelly and you will find that the profile of his new set is different than the originals and some showed up bent. The trim for a 65 SD tailers into the fender profile and the DT stuff didn't have that profile. I'm not sure how they turned out once Kelly sent them back. You will have to ask him. I found some trim off of anther car that is as close as the DT profile stuff. Just a matter of a cut and a tig. It cost me 35.00 at a swap meet. If it was perfect for the 65 stuff and DT  rectified the problem maybe it's worth the money. Hasn't happened yet for us. Maybe the 66 sd stuff is a simpler profile? By the way this is a very old post. If I could order a set it would also be better. Pulling a set off a driving car and sending it over to them is not a option. Way to rare and it could be damaged.

its funny.. I havent seen the stainless now for awhile. I sent it back for "modification" months ago and, although I said I was in no hurry, I still dont know what the "modifications" look like. I'm in Vancouver again and the Stainless could very well be at home in Calgary on the door step.
after all the back and forth communications between myself and Taylor @ DT.. he actually offered to take out some small blemishes for a fee of 25 or 35 bucks.. LOL!!!

after all this. I wouldnt have done it.. knowing what I know now. the stuff is beautiful.. but not worth it.

seems pretty insane to spend 2k on 2 pieces of rocker moulding.1 rock and the party is over.Seems to me like 65sssd has a very economical solution,it cost big bucks to be a purist, and for 2 k they aint pure.Im sure they do nice work, some questionds id ask is what type of S/S is it and what guage. Not much money in material there.......

Looks like the person that was fired up deleted the 66 SD molding comments. As for those 65 moldings just make them out any pontiac molding that has a close profile. Gto trim is the best because it's solid stainless and cheap. I found one that's closer but it's rare and hard to find too. Has DT commented on this issue? I was a little harsh at first. I just feel there taking advantage of the need of this trim at a premium price. Sorry that Kelly had to be the lab rat for the DT 65 trim.

realistically.  I dont know any other option for new stuff.  The DT stuff is beautiful for sure, and I'm sure they've worked out the "kinks".  I'm just ready to be finished with the whole project and have started to lose interest in spending any more money on it.  I've seen lots of chevelle rocker chrome on the SD's... it's nowhere near correct, but it's common and available new..

well there is 8 pieces of chrome.. and @ 250.00 each it's a little easier to take.. but.. OK.. not really.
the 64 GTO is pretty close to the same profile..

I just was saying that at a swap meet you can pick up 64 gto trim pretty cheap. I would be proud to own a nice 65 Sd 4sp like yours. If I could afford your car I would buy it in a second. Let me know, ???
