RE: 283 over heating

ok am at it again still heathing got a gauge it shows the heat at 210.that hot. Try a other rad ,and other water pump still heating
One thing i saw when i got the heats off the holes on the gaskets where the water flows and only like 1/4 inch small and the one on the heat and the block are at less 1 inch big .I was wondering shud i make the holes in the gasket bigger to let more water go true or it normal to have small hole like that in the gasket .

Hey I'm new to this group but I'll post some pictures of what I did my car when I was having the exact same issue. I tried multiple little things but could never get it right.
Now it sits at 180 and doesn't move much.

So basically I spent $600 on the rad I think it might have been less now that i think about it. Its an aluminum rad then I took the fan off and went with an electric powered fan which has an auto sensor to kick in at what ever temp you want. That fan and shroud it comes as a kit cost me around $200, but I have not had a heating issue ever since this change. Stays at 180 fan kicks in and stays at 180. This Rad is setup is for 700 hp which is way over kill for my 283 but I was sick of overheating issues.

Just uploading some pics.

Just so you know I also looked at your pictures, and that rad looks exactly like a 2 core rad. You stated the car had a 6 cylinder and you dropped a v8 in the old girl...

If so the 2 core rad will be sufficient for a 6 cyl 250 engine but will not work for the v8. You need to either drop a 3 core Rad in that car or go with aluminum Rad like I did. I believe my aluminum rad is a 1 1/2 cores.
But a 1 1/2 aluminum equals a 4 core regular rad if I remember right...

I bet that's your problem that 2 core rad can not keep up with the cooling.

I only say this because a few years way back, I had to rebuild my 283 well I tossed a 6 cyc and the rad into my car to get me up and running.

When I rebuilt my 283 I totally forgot about the smaller 2 core rad and then the heating issues began.... I tried timing, shrouds ahhh man it pissed me off. Then someone tipped me off on the core's on my rad, so I went this route and I'm much happier.
