Good investigating work!  i think you are on the right track with what you all ready decoded.

The serial # i can't help with, just not sure in the 1969 year.

Check for a cast 1/2" square with a "M" in the middle on the engine block.  That is for McKinnon Industries.  They were the foundry for Canadian Blocks.

I notice you have the original GM canada  Aluminium Ign Coil.   Cool-that is a keeper!

Interesting that you have a glass bowl fuel pump/filter.  looks like it is for the older 235-261 6cyls.  i didnt know they fit on the 250 block.  cool.

As for your Air Cleaner, i think i have an extra, not sure what it would cost to ship.  I will try to get a pic and find it in the next few days.

230's and 250's had the same '968' casting # but if it's the original engine, it should be a 230 as the 250's weren't available until the '66 Chevelles...where they?.

I have no BG Suffix in my notes either but what's interesting is the old Canadian book I have notes..."engine codes are the first 2 digits of the engine number"...and there is an '11' listed as 1965 230 1Bbl pumping out a tire squealing 140 Hp!.

No part of the 111467 has anything in common w/ the Vin sequence does it?.

Just funnin' you Johann but being a SA car, maybe the BG is a Basil Green stamping and it's a Perena Chevelle!.

I checked in the library for Engine Nomenclature thread. That research shows the 250 first available in Full Size Pontiacs in 1966 and 1967 for Beaumonts. Based on this it does not appear that a 250 was original to a 1965 Chevelle.

Found this on Wiki:

250

The stroked 250 version produced 155 hp (116 kW) for Chevrolet and GMC. Between 1975 - 1984, an integrated cylinder head was produced, with one-barrel intakes for passenger cars, and two-barrel intakes for trucks after 1978.

During the mid-1970s, the Buick 231 and Chevrolet V6-90 (basically a variant of the Chevrolet small block V8) was replacing the Chevrolet 250 for use in passenger cars and light duty trucks/vans. Passenger car use of the 250-cubic-inch (4.1 L) engine was discontinued after the 1979 model year since the six was restricted to light truck usage (the 4.1 was discontinued after 1984 where the 4.3 V6 became the base motor). It would be GM's final inline six (along with the Chevrolet 292) until the introduction of the GM Atlas engine in late 2001.

This engine was used on the following vehicles:

230

The 230 Replaced 235 cubic inches (3.9 L). It was also used by Chevrolet and GMC trucks, primarily the half-tons. It produced 140 hp (100 kW). the 230 had a firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4 rotating clockwise. This engine was used on the following vehicles:

Thank you all for the input.  I should explain that this is a 69 engine in a 65 Malibu.  It underwent a scrapyard transplant in 1982.

Check for a cast 1/2" square with a "M" in the middle on the engine block.  That is for McKinnon Industries.  They were the foundry for Canadian Blocks.  This is a McKinnon engine!biggrin

I notice you have the original GM canada  Aluminium Ign Coil.   Cool-that is a keeper! The coil has been cleaned and buffed and is in daily use! See cooler line topicaww

Interesting that you have a glass bowl fuel pump/filter.  looks like it is for the older 235-261 6cyls.  i didnt know they fit on the 250 block.  cool.  The glass bowl pump is in a box waiting for re-furbishing and then back on!

As for your Air Cleaner, i think i have an extra, not sure what it would cost to ship.  I will try to get a pic and find it in the next few days.  This is great news!  The cost is a factor to be considered. Tomorrow I start as a Skills Development Consultant and hopefully earn enough to cover the costs,  Only thing is that it may take up to two months before the finances come in (My Invoice, Company invoice then hopefully Client payment!)

What still puzzles me is the 5T below the GM casting letters?  This is the Holy Grail of knowledge.

Thanks again for the input.  My club is amazed at the interaction between Canadian Poncho and I.

Johann,
Check my next posting!!!!!!!!! Pontiac Found!!!!!!!
