I got myself a code reader for the bird and tried it out. There's two error codes. First is 22, which means 1.t hrottle position sensor signal voltage is low 2. the fuel cutoff relay circuit is open or shorted to ground
The other error code is 42 which means 1.electronic spark timing circuit is open or shorted 2. direct ignition fault-bypass circuit open or shorted to ground during engine run
3. fuel cutoff relay circuit open or shorted to ground
I'm not sure where to start on this. I know there is an electrical problem with the car, it looks like the ground wire to the battery is fried and one of the fuses drains the battery when put in. I'm guessing this is going to be something that a novice like me probably needs an expert to fix. Any thoughts of how i might be able to track down the problem and fix it. I'm sure it's not just a code that is stuck in the ECM as i've noticed engine performance that suggests a problem with fuel delivery.
This is the problem with computer cars. Either need a lot of patience, or just pay some one that knows how to chase this stuff out. I have a low oil temp sensor that flashes all the time. There was tape over the light when I got the car, looked at the chip( no one has seen this chip before car has a real rumble to it) Think it was the orgional gm motorsports chip as the mill has never been cracked open. As you do one thing to these cars, a different code will appear as you have to trick the computer in the old days.(Sheesh!)
