Can you still buy a kit to rebuild your alternator. I remember doing it twice, years ago on a couple of old GM's I owned. It was dead easy to do. The bearings (I think) are making a pretty good rattle. But the belt does look pretty sad. I'll try a new belt on it first with the proper tension, before commiting to a kit if one is available. the reason for a diy, is I don't want a reman standing out like a sore thumb under that well patina'd engine compartment.
Would Carquest or the like still have it?

Most auto parts stores should have the bearings I think. I did my bearings about a month or two ago and they had them right in stock. Pretty cheap fix, less than $20 if I remember right. Good luck.
