327 blocks

I may be able to obtain a 3959512 327 for a very reasonable price. It is an early 327built around 63. I have been collecting 1966 L79 parts for quite a while but have not picked up an engine core yet. The 64-67 327 has a different casting # Does anyone know what the difference if any there is between these 327's

62 to 67 are small journal 68-69 are big journal small journal blocks start with a 38 # big ones start with a 39#.Im thinkin the moter you are looking at is a 68-9 moter. Not 100% sure but at least 95 hope that helps-oh yea older ones have oil filter casing, later have spin ons

Apparently the L/79 blocks had a higher nickel content than standard 327's.

According to the casting # it is a 62-63 250hp 327 so this would be the small journal engine. I have not looked at it yet but the guy says he has it stripped down to a long block assy so at least I can inspect and measure the bores etc. I just want to make sure there isn't something different about the block from the later castings (64-67) that is going to be a factor in my engine build.

The split in style is between 66 and 67 I think. Both are small journal. If you look at the front of the bare block where the intake seals you will see right away what I mean. I only learned this a couple of years ago. I will see if I can find pics for you.
