bumper / hideaway before & after

Stripped every nut/bolt/washer that survived, and every surface stripped and sealed to my liking. There is pitting in the main supports, but its stopped now. I didnt touch the vaccuum canister. It works too well for me to mess it up.  Theres probably over 100 pieces to this setup (almost expect to be corrected).  Tweaking it for balance is proving to be difficult, but I'll get it. If you see loosened bolts in the pic, that is why. Installed new bushings, and repaired the missing tooth in the grill from one of Bretts GP.s. Repair is as invisible as I'd hoped.  I never claimed to be good at photography.  I am very happy with the bumper. The chrome is dirty in the pics from me working with the bumper so much, but cleans up very well. New old school wheels I found last week exceeded expectations.  My shop has now extended to the basement.

I noticed your new wheel in the background, has a slotted hole..  I thought all manufacturers, had gone to direct fit, and acorn nuts..    Did you get the offset washers and mag nuts for them?

Thanks, this whole thing is a learning experience. It was low cost, high labour job. I do now have the correct washer/nuts for the rims. They were close by and quite a bargain so it was a done deal. They are not brand new, I dont even know how old they are, but they are as close to never mounted as they come and fit my car.  I dont know about guru, but I have completely assembled it 4 times, and absorbed and inhaled particles of it!

Ah those late 60's vacum headlights - the only good thing that came out of my hitting a deer with my 68 Corvette was I convinced the body shop to use the insurance money to install a custom front end with 1970 Camaro styling (except sectoned, with oval headlights) and get rid of all that vacuum stuff! smile.gif

Congratulations to you for having the perseverance to fix yours!

Dave

Thanks. I have a 'photographer' lined up with some great hi-def equipment and lenses, for the grande finale. Probably still 6 weeks away at least, but on track for spring.
