heads are at the machinists having thier exhust seats readjusted the cut was a little off. if anyone wonders why it costs so much to have heads ported i have over 20h in just the porting not the rest of the measureing and assembly disassembly. now its time for the intake.
I just naturally thought everyone has car parts in their houses. I've wanted to build a 40x60 shop out here since we moved here it's just getting the better half on side with it. I would have thought after years of bringing stuff in the house, that by now she'd have finally said, "Okay dear. This is the year you can have your shop." But still I wait. SIGH! LOL!
The more applicable question in my humble opinion would be; why shouldn't I? I say go for it and if for some reason you don't like it, then all ya have to do is take it off again. Don't forget to send a picture once it's all installed.
i dont no i used to work on multiple carbs in british crap what a nightmare, two four are more of a headache than one and its a 65 if it was a 64 or earlier then maybe, i like to hide improvements. found out why they pulled the rebuilt O9 holes for rear cam berings drilled in wrong spot fuel pump pushrod glued in place I love it when ametures do rebuilds 409 have their quikes and are expensive to fix when you screw up
..if you like ragtops Frank you might like a pic of ours. Think we've finally figured out the engine combo - a 283 with new-for-'64 327 heads - still not 100% sure ('cause I've never heard of that before..) but we'll have it figured out shortly...best to you from an old ON boy...!! (and good luck with the 409 - she's real fine...!)
im shooting for the mid 20s in gas miliage so maybe it can sit on the shelf and collect dust a little longer. checking spring hieghts tonight hopfuly i can get them asembled tommorow

worked on the intake all afternoon, one minute it was t shirt wether next minute its snowing and cold, alberta in the spring gota love it. word of warning for those using or contemplateing using the new edelbrock intake on the small 409. they are made for the big engine thus the runners are big which means the runners neck down at the end. the problem being that the holes between the runners are not drilled and their is very little room in the walls you can cut through and i did the walls at the thinest now messure about 80thou were i cut through it was down to 10 . now i need a spring compresser thats heavy enough bent the small block one

the problem with those carbs was that they fit on the 300 327 thats were alot of them ended up i might have parts carbs but they cant be made runable,i do see them at the swap meets but they want stupid money for a rodchester that hard to modify
Do you happen to have a thread posted about the progress of your 409? Any pics of the car it's going into? Would be interested to see your project. Do you know the origins of your engine? car ,. or truck block?
I'm interested in the '09 engine as well. I've got a rebuilt '65 Impala 340 HP waiting to be dropped into my '64. It's pretty much all original ,... heads, intake ,. etc. I've just got my project on hold for a while.
Anyway ,.. would be interesting to know how your project is coming along. Will you be dropping the engine in this summer?
If you ever did decide to run the 2x4 setup, a set of those new Edelbrock heads for the W motor would be very nice. Anyway as it is a 340-horse 409 would be a mild mannered, very torquey engine and well suited to your 65 wagon.
You like hidden modifications? How about using a 454 crank & custom pistons in the 409 block to make a 496 cube monster.

to answer your questions. truck blocks belong in trucks as im still looking for spares. i have four engines two 340hp car engines 65 castings one 425hp which i found out was out of a 62 still standard bore and one truck in a 5 tone truck replacement block. the 340 hp that i posted the pics of are out of the cs AC car and its a highly worked over engine. The heads are running the big valves are ported out to 425 hp specs with a 409hp hydrolic cam its running AC and a Turbo 400 273 gears so its a little on the mild side the intake is alot better for flow than stock. im not a big believer in cranks over 3.5 inch stroke just for the added stress on the bottom end and plus its the real deal so why mess with it. im also looking for about 25mpg so that another reason to be conservative.
The wagon will be running the 62 block and i think ill stick with a single 4 and sell the dual parts off to fund the piston rod thing.
