Tremec Perfect Fit 5 Spd Install 1969 Beaumont

The Installation went AWESOME with No problems with tunnel clearance, I ended up with 3/4 to 1" of clearance all the way round the 5 spd { My car was originally 3 spd auto, column shift. We put the motor and tranny in as one unit, set it in the motor mount saddles and lifted the trans to testfit and see where to cut for the shifter, we cut a small 3X 4 " hole and then expanded it to aprox 4" X 4 1/2" to make sure we had lots of room. The supplied sheetmetal From Tremec fit perfect and will cover the hole. The only thing that did not fit was the stock  trans X Member, the bracket was too high, I got a friend of mine to fabricate a Heavier plate and weld it to the bottom of the X member, we figured it lowered the bracket by about 3/4 " I was lucky to have a spare X  Member in case the first one did not work { Thank GOD for my parts Car } we used the existing frame holes and just elongated the holes a little on the X member to line it up with the existing holes, the 3rd and 5th from the front of the car. All in all it was a pretty easy fit and we had the motor and tranny in sitting on tempory mounts in about 3 1/2 hours. Thanks to a couple of friends willing to give up their Sun afternoon. All I need to do now is contact Tremec with the Driveshaft length  55 1/2" and the universal joint size, they say it takes aprox 2 weeks to fabricate.  I will post more pics when the driveshaft arrives.     Talk to you all soon     Mylo

Great job Mylo and thanks for the post. So i take it Tremac supplied a tunnel piece and you tacked that in place too ? Thats going to be a great car when you're done !!... I would do the shaft at a local driveline shop, might save you a few bucks ???

The Tunnel sheetmetal will be tach welded in and the driveshaft is supplied by Tremec, its an included part of the perfect kit system , they don't ship it with your trans, you have to phone a 1-800 number and give them the driveshaft length, mine was 55 1/2 " and the universal type and size. They build a custom  Heavy duty balanced driveshaft with the yolk. They say about 2 weeks, I will post pics when it arrives.    Mylo
