Im assuming this is a ballast resistor. one lead should go to the + and the other side to the harness also is it ok to paint it . Im putting my wiring harness back in and i lost a few tags from the voltage regulator and horn relay, wish i had taken a pic of it before.. wiring diagrams from original shop manuals dont help much.
yup, that's a ballast resistor, and your wiring plan is correct. I've seen them painted when people had spray bombed their firewall, but not sure how well they hold paint. I like the contrast of having them white on the firewall. I presume they get a little hot, but they seem to hold paint.
Lefty, is your car a Sport Deluxe with a factory ammeter?
If so, was that mounted on the inner fender, front of the wheel, left side?
Again, if so, that is likely the shunt for your ammeter. There is lots of discussion on those over at Steve's Nova Site and I think you should read up on it before you paint it, etc.

thanks, it was mounted beside the voltage regulator. the + from the batt goes to it and then to the horn relay and then to the fuse box. the ammeter was across the resistor it was not wired in the harness but added on the outside, i guess that way they did not have to make a special harness for the SD. it went through the firewall with the wiper control Im looking tommorow to see if i can get a new one because the terminals on are really rusty .

I have a 64 Chevelle and the ammeter didn't work. All wiring diagrams didin't show anything. Then I ran across Steve's Nova Site. Supposedly for 63 and 64 with guage instead of idiot light used a resister in the line. They are GREEN instead of White. Don't know if your Acadian is the same but if so you need this special resister. Several places now sell it.
Hve add wiring diagram from Chevelle to show differance in wiring, don't know if yours is the same or simuliar.
your right it was a very dirty green, it worked before i started all my guages worked except the clock. i think i removed power along time ago because of the same problem with it running fast (liike a stop watch !!)

I replied to your post on Steve's (but someone else also did) that if you keep resetting it by turning it counter clockwise to the correct time it will eventually catch on.

think thats what i might have to do. buy one for Chevy II and replace the face. It goes so fast it souonds like it will explode !! I think i will go back to getting it ready to sttart and leave this for a next year project. I also want to lengthen the wires to the bulds on the cluster cause it is so hard to charge them when you cannot pull it away from the dash..

Oh man, I forgot. You have an Acadian with the small clock opening.
I wonder if they use the same quartz movement as a Nova. I may end up doing mine one day (it is dead) so I will be watching your thread here with renewed interest!
