I know that your 66 is probably spot on, but my motor probably won't help you. I'm going to check it for fun but as I stated before everything on my 66 sd's 327 decodes as a 65 300HP except the suffix but that's another post. The 250 HP 66 275HP seems to be another beast. I'm a little deep into the Cheetah right now to spend alot of time on it but I will pull the air cleaner and check. Does anybody have the 66 intake numbers handy because the intakes are carb specific?

A lot of it is "spot on", but certainly not the carb and air cleaner. (If per chance your air cleaner assembly is original to the engine, I'd be curious to see it as well?)
thx

The manifold for 66 AVS Carter carbs was the one with the multi carb flange 3872783. Could use Holey or Carter on it.
Thankyou and I will check it tonight because I'm on my lunch break right now hard at work. I ran the numbers on my motor before I bought it but I put it them in a safe place and promply lost it.
You probably know that the J5 is the date code . September of 65.
Interesting. Does the "J" represent the month? (I'm thinking "A" for Jan, "B" for Feb..."J" for Oct etc?)

Yes relates to the month except the letter I is not used. They skip that letter as could be mistaken for number one. Thats why J is September. We did the same for CP Rail material location codes.
Another question... I've found a supplier that sells rebuilt carbs and they have a "4028 SA -- E6". I believe that this tells me that it is a May '66? How does one determine if it is a GM 3875966?
thx

Thanks. Any thoughts as to what would be a fair price for a rebuilt one?...Anyone?...

Are you going for a strict 100% correct parts restoration or a nice driver?
The reason I ask, is it would seem easier to buy a new Edelbrock carb, bolt it on, and be done.... i bought a new one for about 350.00, and loaned it to Todd and it works aces
I can apparently get a rebuilt Carter AVS for $350 (plus shipping). All things being equal, I'm thinking I'd like the original model. $350 sound good?...

I know it took me a little bit to get back to you but here are the numbers off my 66 SD 4 spd car. 4027SA C6. The carb is the original one for the motor for sure and it matches the docs that Carl posted.
Thanks for taking the time to verify! As usual, the Pontiac guru's on this site were spot-on with their beliefs that the Carter AVS was the most likely carb (despite somewhat obscure documentation in the books indicating Holley's, Rochester's and Carter's being used). What would also be cool would be to see an original air cleaner assembly for the '66 327 as there are some that believe it is a Pontiac assembly vs the Chev assembly. You wouldn't happen to have the original would you?...

This one had a tiny chrome one and I don't think it's the original. The air cleaner is one of the few things that I don't have for the car. I wouldn't mind seeing one too.
just as a side coment, i rebuild carbs mostly carters and older rochesters for myself and customers and find that i can never leave them in stock condition. the jets are always out as is the settings for our so called fuel. the end result is that i run all my carbs in on my test vehicle
