I just think he could have picked a less solid and clean car. He did a lot of very nice metal work, but he replaced an awful amount of original rust-free metal. There are a lot of rusty cars out there just begging to get the cancer cut out and fresh metal put back in, why use a real pristine one?

I thought it was terrible... Sorry that's how I feel about him hacking my favorite car. Too each his own. I still think the spider man paint job would do it justice. Take a look at the thread on the 61 bubble top Parisienne.. That's how you do it! My opinion for what it's worth....not much
I think what he is/was doing to the car is great!! It will raise the profile of beaumonts when its done and hits a magazine/show circuit!
Who cares if he puts a dodge or pontiac engine in a beaumont? neither belong in there more than the other... he wasn't cutting up the holy grail of cars!! his workmanship was outstanding, and he will have a very unique ride!!
There are people who like different types of cars, some purists, some restomods, some customs and protouring.... whatever, its just a car, do whatever makes you happy!! life is too short!
I think it's gonna be a pretty cool ride when it's done. It's his car and he can do it how he wants. I followed his build on team chevelle over the last couple years and hes done some nice work. Hes not just butchuring it, the guys quite the artist and his fab work is very impressive.

ak
I agree 100%. I would love to see the finished car. James
I put abig block into my 53 stude, mustang 2, new frame clip ,the purists didn't like it . A beaumont with a viper engine will sound and look great. We're hot rodders. Now the 61 pontiac drag car is no different . They are the same just pontiacsheet metal. Going down the road it will still be a pontiac or abeaumont to 99% of the people. I would like to see them both when finished.
I checked out the thread. Hadn't looked at it in months. He is doing more sheet metal mods than I remembered.
It's his car, he can do whatever he wants with it, but there are what, 10 times as many Chevelles as Beaumonts? It be a nicer build if he was doing it to a Chevelle IMHO.
Unfortunately, Beaumonts do not demand the money they would if they were an American model with similar production numbers. If they were worth more, people would probably start with a Chevelle instead of a Beaumont.
All that said - an amazing piece of work. Wish I had his talent!

When building a show car you dont want to start out with crap. its hard enough to fabricate a wild custom car and to throw a bunch of rust repair into the build is just going to add a new level of frustration I totaly understand why a guy would want to start out with a solid car. We dont know how he got it it may have been someone half finished project with all the correct parts missing so why not build a show stopper I dont really like the fact that it is a V10 chrysler but really what engine does GM offer that would be exotic or not already done. I think Brian had picks of a Beaumont with a diesel in it. I just like the fact that there are guys willing to go out on a limb and build a one off car just think how many young kids will see that car and get inspired, we need to keep our hobbie fresh or it will die. I really hope the attitudes starting to come out are just because of the winter blues, I really enjoy CP but im starting to be affraid to post my thoughts or opinions just to be bad mouthed and trashed im very hesitant to post pics of my wagon to only have it trashed. I know alot of guy hate derby drivers and what we do to cars but I would invite anyone to hang out at the shop and watch the amount of thought and effort that goes into a pro derby car! I had no idea until I started to get competive at just how much effort goes into a car that is going to get smashed. Im going to start a thread and keep it updated next promodified car I build I bet all the haters will be amazed at the amount of time and energy that goes into a build im talking way over a 100hrs and thousands of dollars into trick parts. Imagine how much that guys V10 cost alone I bet he has over 15grand into the engine and transmission.
Tiny. Point taken. I shouldn't have said anything negative about this guys or anyone's work. He has obviously put allot of time and money into this project. I do think when you take on a project like this you had better have some thick skin because you are building and putting it on display for people to judge. Some are going to say they love it and some (like me) are just not going to get it.
Actually I was only answering your question why did they use such a solid car! Then I just went into my little rant not directed at you!LOL Just needed to vent I want to keep supporting CP.
My little spin on this is that not everybody has the same interest. which is good or we would all be driving the same cars. while i was on the east coast my best friend and I owned the same year bikes 75 Z1 kawasaki's. his was restored original, beautiful bike, mine was full blown race. We appreciated each others bikes but had no interest in owning the other. I do like original but usually can't wait till the warranty is up to modify it to make it my own. i have no interest in keeping something "that is the way it came from the factory" While i'm stolling around cruises and such i'll check out the nice stockers but i'll really be looking for something thats none stock

Couldnt have said it better myself! thats why I get upset when people start name calling and trash talking. I love a variety of vehicals and like yourself I love to make my ride my own and would never think of trashing a guy that has taken the time to make it his own weather that be a factory correct car or a wild custom.
Plus who wouldnt want a twin turbo V10? He said he's looking at 1000hp to the rear wheels. Man that would be a fun ride. Hmm...I'm gonna have to start spamming his thread with "GET BACK TO WORK ON YOUR CAR" posts.
quite an undertaking regardles of make... I'm curious to see what sort of "fabrication" is done for the front cross member that was all cut except for about 10%. should be pretty cool when it's done.
as a younger guy that is a "chevy guy".. I always wanted to find a cool old coronet, or super bee, super bird... and throw a chevy drive trane in it... just to P.O. mopar guys.. but now that Im older, and hopefully wiser, I can say that if the car is complete and worth restroing.. do it.. if it's not.. then do your best to make it what you want it to be.
I've seen a few MG's done up with small block chevs.... one had a 671 sticking out of it.. the engine looked bigger than the car. pretty cool to see...
