this engine is being a total bitch it's still going no where in a hurry. so i set up the new cap and rotor as you can see by the pictures it is facing the right way and it is at TDC. anyone have an idea what could be wrong?
Jon hard to tell by the pic but it looks like your rotor is at the 6 o clock position and it should be at the 5 o clock position as I say hard to tell someone else may think different
It looks almost like you are one or two teeth too far to the left with the distributor. Pull the dist. up about an inch until it comes out of the cam gear and turn it back (counter clockwise) and drop it back into the cam gear. It wont drop down onto the oil pump drive until you have some one crank the engine over with you holding the distributor down. It will fall into the oil pump drive after about 2 engine revolutions. carl: no it sounds like is going to start now i won't be able to do anything on it i was just at the hospital for my finger had little issue with some wire lol but i can't get my dist out it is suck in there... pete will be able to explain how much it is in there lol

Jonathan, if it sounds like it wants to start move the dist. forward or back.....your timing may just be out a wee bit. Also try turning up the idle screw a bit...who knows how far it backed off!!! Also if it is flooded, you may have to hold the throttle wide open or pump it. Your almost there......I wouldn't remove the dist. because it was a runner before it was removed!!

make sure you plug all the unused vacuum lines . Is that a unpluged vacuum fitting in the intake manifold just infront of the distributor ? Is that metal tube coming from the back of the carb caped off ? While you have the spark plugs out would not hurt to squirt a few drops of oil in each cylinder to boost compresion.

Dist. is seized in the block. When I was down at Johanthon's I had to use a "large" adj. on the square boss of dist. hsg. & a "BFH" to move it. Trying to get it out will be a "bear" & will likely break the hsg. pounding on it to get it to lift enough to get a "pry" bar under it. I'm wondering if it's jumped the chain???? How many KM's on this engine!!! By the look of the rockers thru the oil cap it hasn't run in a "long long" time!!!!!!

As far as I was to understand it was a junkyard motor with low miles that a guy bought for his pickup. He ran it for a few years then when he got a different vehicle, the guy I got it from bought it for his wifes Malibu. He did have it stored on a rack, and it was covered from the weather..... It was supposed to be a good runner! I had not anticipated this many problems firing this thing up :(

heading to canadian tire for a new connector.....ive been looking at the thickness of the wire im using for my hei to battery connection it's not as thick as the new wire i bought could that be my issue because im not sure about that one wire?
