327 oil pan question

Is a 283 oil pan and a 327 oil pan the same? I have a 283 that's easier to get to to put a pan on my 327. They are both 65 vintage.

DefaultRe: stock pan interchange 283/327 chevelle 65 ?

Most small blocks use the same pan for similar years. Most any pan from a car between 62 through 72 will work.

I believe they would be the same if out of an A body.  I have a 67 chevelle 283 pan on my 327 because the engine was originally out of a 67 Impalla which used a different oil pan.

That sounds good but I wonder if they look any different or have a different part number?

I would be surprised if they were a different part # but I have not checked.

As stated, as long as they are from the correct body style they interchange.

Good. Carl now that your here do you have a picture of the harmonic balancer and pulley setup for a 300 hp 327? I have two 250 hp ones and they seem to have a  thinner balancer than the one I collected for the 300 hp. Any thoughts?

Oh boy, I can check Paul but I don't think I have pictures for those. I will take a look and be back to you in just a bit.

No pics, but wow, the more I read the more confusing it is. I will have to do it a different night. It appears that forged cranks use a different balancer than cast. And then of course, the L79 is all by itself. I will try to post up some parts book pages another time.

That sounds good for me because the one I was going to use is not like the others. Like the song! I figured you were the right man for the job.

I think an Impala pan has a triple step, and a beaumont or chevelle pan has only a double step.Been there, done that!
