Mike Ross is the lucky owner of this month's feature car. His 1969 Pontiac 2+2 has to be one of only a very few true surviving examples having only travelled just over 34000 miles in 43 years. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling green with envy at Mike for owning this car! Mike tells us more about the 2+2:
"I found this car in an ad on kijiji Calgary in the fall of 2010. I found myself constantly going back to the ad and drooling over the pictures. It was calling out to me!
On about the second day the ad was posted, i sent the seller a note expressing interest. A day or two later i recieved a phone call from the seller. It turned out that he was a fellow member of this site whom i had met before. It was then that i remembered him telling a story on this site of a "new" 1969 2+2 that he had found and purchased. I remembered reading his story and thinking "some people have all the luck!". We agreed on a day and time to meet for a viewing. My dad came up to Lacombe to pick me up and go see the car in Calgary. We arrived in cow-town and had a good look at the car. I had to have it!
The deal with Wayne was done, the hands were shook, and I drove her home. This car is 98%+ original and largely untouched, except for an aftermarket 8-track player / speakers and the normal maintenance items.
She is not flawless, but has been well taken care of and looked after all her life. Much credit goes to the original owner who cared for her all these years. I feel he is the one responsible for the present condition.
Also, much thanks to Wayne for rescueing her from under the blankets of time and bringing her out to the light of day once more. I am the third owner and plan to be for a good long while.
In the spring I plan on adding painted steel wheels and dog dish caps. The exhaust is due for replacement as well.
Other than that I will just do the up-keep and maintenance and enjoy the ride when time and weather permit. This car is one of 1943 2+2's built for Canadian sale in 1969. The car is not highly optioned. It is for the most part just a standard 1969 2+2.
ENGINE = L-48 300HP 350cu.in.
TRANS. = THM350
REAR = Peg-Leg 12 Bolt.
The car is a real pleasure to drive and, with the 300HP L-48 and dual exhaust,has no problem in the get up and go department!Thanks for looking guys and gals! Keep the rubber on the road! MIKE
That is a super nice Pontiac. I love te originality of the car right down to the standard 2+2 wheel discs. Another cool item is the Tonawanda valve cover decal, not that common on a Canadian car, only L48, LF6 and big blocks got that. The L48 was more powerful than the 396 in 1969 by 35 ponies. Looks alot like the brochure car for '69. Very nice.
"So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think... The good outnumber you, and we always will." Patton Oswalt
Super super sweet Pontiac ride, i love it. The first thing i thought when i saw this car was Hillar. I love everything about this car, even the green paint. PLEASE leave the full caps on it. The small caps are not worthy of this sweet ride. Wishing you the best of luck with this beautiful Pontiac. Cheers. George.
