1966 AM FM Radio variants

Howdy Guys, Carl S and I got on the topic of 1966 (or 65 for that matter) AM FM radios.  I have seen a few in cars and they all have the slider swtch to change frequencies but I obtained one some years ago at the Red Deer Swap meet from old Bill the radio guy that he said was right for a 66 Pontiac.

It switches frequencies with the rear right ring (behind the tuner knob) and the entire faceplate flips to the AM or FM band.  Carl tells me that this isn't correct for 66 and I believe him based on his vast knowledge and what I have seen myself.  However i finally got the chance to try it in a 66 dash and it fits perfectly down to the locating dowels lining up exactly.

I have attached some pictures.  The model number is partly rubbed off so i can't give that but do y9o guysknow of any other of this style showing up?

it also has a slightly diffently wiring hookup that I don't have a diagram for (and I don't want to fry it) so if any body has something that would help, please post it, if you can.

You're too fast for me Carl.  I have noticed that  the tuning button are slightly different than the 66 AM one so I guess so.  I can live with that.

Considering how hard it is to find a 66 one and how well this one fits in a 66 dash I think I'll just stick it in there until something better comes up!

Its only the real experts that will even notice.

No pm's please unless you have a 66 one to swap!

I have to admit that did occur to me. Still with all the postings I've done over the years i would imagine that someone who was motivated enough would find out quite a bit about me.  Of course their eyes would have  completely glazed over with utter boredom by about the 10th post so I have little to fear on that score.

Certainly a 67 or 68 radio Ken.

My 67 GP wagon had a factory FM that looked just like that.

Do you have any of the numbers at all from the tag? I have the books for each year with the numbers listed.

I'm not up on the 67-68 radios like some of the guys here are. Maybe someone knows how to tell the 2 apart.

Most certainly all 65-66 FM's had the slide bar though.

I have probably 6 or 7 66 AM radios. (I think they are all 66 anyway)  Not saying they are a dime a dozen but pretty easy to find .

That would presume i really wanted to give my real birthdate out.  I'm getting very coy about that.

I always thought 65 - 66 were the same, with the slider.  This is a fellow CP member's 65 with factory AM FM.

Ken, now that "all of us" know about the radio!!! Thats the 1st. thing we will look at when we see your car, & likely "point" it out to you that it's the 'wrong" yr. radio!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to give you a "JAB"  Hey, if it works for you, & the radio plays music, & you don't have to "hack" the dash,  GO FOR IT!!  Pete
