I would say they are, I have an original in my 66 GTO and here's a picture of my spare 65 AM/FM Radio with reverb along with all the shop manuals. Kinda hard to find a 65 Radio manual, but I have manuals for all my cars and kept the really tough ones to find for future projects.

You did say spare didn't you? Hint hint...
I also notice that you appear to have a 1965 AC manual. Is that Canadian? I was under the impression Can Pontiac didn't offer it as an RPO till 66.

You would be correct, just checked, it is a U.S. manual. When I had one of my first collector cars, 65 CS, a good friend of mine gave me some of those manuals. He had them when he owned a 65 421 car. The 421 engine is currently sitting in another friend's GTO right now.

Yeah I think I heard that somewhere but thanks for confirming it. They were never common up here in northern Alberta as there was a total of about one fm station in Edmonton in 1966 with about a 20 mile range. I have never seen one on a 60's Alberta car as original equipment.

i dont know if you guys know it, but for 20 years people have been converting the 65-66 big car to GTO works for 65-67 GTO, they actually make a face and a slider, you pull the big car face off, and put the gto plate and slider on and its GTO...someone made the dies and have been selling the conversion pieces for a long long time, i used to buy big car radios for cheap, put the GTO conversion on it, and instant 500 bux...thats where all the big car radios have gone..more demand for GTO radios...trying to find a big car radio is as hard as finding a real GTO radio used to be..if that makes sense...the conversion parts where $100 for 15 years
I have a question for you. Does anyone make an up grade radio with a cd player in it for a 65 Pont? I know there are all kinds for my 66 Mustang. looks like the orig but has the upgrade in the face plate and fit in the same space as the orig.
I think I've heard of an add on that you put into your glove comp that hooks into the radio but I wanted one in the actual radio. Mayber I'll have to go to the after market source after all.
I know some about the factory radios but I'm sorry, I'm not much for aftermarket stuff. Honestly, I likely don't have a radio on more than 5% of the time I'm on the road and even less at home! We have no home audio or video system.
No, I'm not Amish!

I haven't run across anything like that either. The closest I know of is there's a guy in Alberta (Radiola-Bill) who says for $50.00 he can put an aux jack into any radio so you can run an ipod or satellite radio through it but I haven't taken him up on it. Also with an AM/FM radio you can buy a gizmo for your Ipod or satellite radio to tramsmit within the car on an FM frequency.
Me, I like my tunes and I like a good setup in a car but I really don't know if I want to go pack CD' s around anymore. Not sure what I'll do. Probably cut huge holes in my door panels and put in a 8 track like the old days!

If you get a chance to take your radio to good old Bill it is worth the money just to see his place outside of Edmonton. Went there about 5 years ago and I think then he said he had about 5 thousand old radios of all sizes and shapes. Shop has all kinds of junk in it but he gets set up and pretty soon your radio is playing as clear as anything. Then went into the basement of his house and there were just shelves and shelves of more radios. He looks like the guy from Back to the Future but he is quite the talent. My son went with me and we agreed it was worth the price just to watch him in action.
