bonjour a tous, j'aimerait savoir si ce que je crois pourrait etre mon probleme, voila je possede un pontiac catalina 1965 avec moteur de 350, quand je roule a l'occasion il fait des (back-fire), serait-il possible que le probleme, provienne du fait que le voltage du distributeur, de mon moteur ne soi pas assez fort, et qu'il soi encore sur le voltage originale, qui est de 9volt je crois ? si quelqu'un pourrait me repondre, ca serait bien avant de tenter l'experience, de savoir ou aller un peut et comment proceder pour les changement, mercie a tous et j'attend vos conseils.
Hello all, I would like to know if what I think could be my problem, here I possess a 1965 pontiac catalina with engine 350, when I ride on the occasion he made (back-fire), would it be possible the problem, comes from the fact that the voltage distributor, my engine does not itself strong enough, and so it still on the original voltage, which is 9volt I believe? if someone could answer me, would be ca before trying the experiment, knowing where to go and how one can proceed to change, mercie and I was waiting all your advice.

From my experience, back firing usually means the timing or the dwell (if it still has points) is off. Unless it's a "lean pop" that happens when you give it gas and it gets lots of air but no fuel (in which case, it could be the accelerator pump).
CATALINA 65 says he has 9 volts - I'm wondering if he is running an HEI distributor through the original resistor wiring?

I took french in school for about 6 years and I cannot read or speak it. That says a lot about:
1. me,
2. the French program
and/or,
3. the fact that for 20+ years after high school, I had zero opportunity to use the french I did learn.
As I travel, I meet people all over the world who speak a minimum of two languages - often 3 or more. It's is embarrassing to be barely able to get along in one. Wish it were otherwise.

C'est deja arrive a mon Grand Am et c'etait le fil de batterie positif qui va jusqu'au demarreur qui avait un bris a l'interieur, c.a.d. une mauvaise connection qui causait un mauvais voltage faible d'a-peu-pres 9 volt aussi, beaucoup de petard a l'arriere ! J'ai pose un fil neuf et ca la regle le probleme.
It happened on my Grand Am and it was the positive wire from the battery to the starter who was frayed, bad connection caused a voltage drop to around 9 volts, alot of backfire ! I installed a newer wire and it cured the problem.
