I remember them from way back. Keeps hot oil from the bottom of the intake manifold.
here is the products description of use:
65-061 - SBC LIFTER VALLEY TRAY VENTED (65-061)
The SBC Lifter Valley Oil Baffle deflects hot oil splashing from lifter bores away from the bottom of the intake manifold. This baffle also holds lifters in their bores in the event of a push rod or rocker-arm failure, preventing a loss of oil pressure and possible bearing damage. These valley oil baffles have holes for use with our valley vent tubes (#22-220).
How are you going to reattach the PCV canister inside the valley? looks like that thing covers up the screw hole. And yes you need to reinstall that canister.
Which triggered something in my old memory! Test fit your intake once you have that cannister installed to make sure the intake clears it. When I did my 327, I put on the 69 Z28 intake and it stopped short of fitting about 3/8" too soon!

Not using it, and putting a PCV Valve into the one valve cover and a breather on the other...
Thats too bad, always sad to hear of someone using the Valve cover style PCV, kind of defeats the purpose of the Early 327, with the nice plain valve covers. But thats just me. im a purist

I have a pair od beautiful vintage Edelbrock finned covers that are useless because I dont have a vintage block...
They sure look good as wall hangers !!

I know what you mean Roger, it is such a rare ocurance to get an early block to use those cool 327 valve covers or vintage aluminum ones. A shame to see it turn into another bellybutton 350 or 305 look

unfortunately the block didn't have an intake on it when I got it from Carl..otherwise this wouldn't be an issue. As I'm trying to do this on a fairly tight budget and got a great deal on the Edelbrock...this is the road I have to take....

I can check. I might have but if not, those are easy. I know I have a spare intake somewhere. I had one for it that was correct but not the right dates but then someone on this site donated a proper one to me a while back, so I'm sure I can fix you up.

Why didn't you just build a 350-you've taken all of the vintage stuff off that makes it cool and not used it. The only cool parts left are the Camel Humps. What a disaster of a build up.
I think it is neat that we can each have an opinion but sometimes I wonder if they all need to be shared. Each of us are at a different place as far as our taste, our cars, and our builds but I know I wouldn't have appreciated this opinion. Everyone is not going to be excited about everything else that is being built on this site but it means quite abit to the individual involved in their own build.

Wow, that's a bit harsh, don't you think? The fun part of this hobby is that we all see it in a different light. I've seen lots of vehicles on here painted in a colour I think is horrid, or with wheels I think look horrible but the bottom line still is the same---build your car the way you want it regardless of the expert's advice!

By now it's likely old school but I was taught when I was a teen that you soak both dies of the head gasket with auto trans fluid before installing it. I'm sure these days some makes something that "works much better" but I've never had a head gasket issue yet on an engine I've done, which isn't a big amount, maybe 15 or so.
ive never heard of thiis always put them in dry. very interesting soaking both dies
This is my fourth attempt to post and have pics..but the pics won't upload so I'll just update on our progress.
The 307 and tranny are out. We are going to service the TH350 and put a new output seal in before swapping it to the 327. The engine mounts are on the 327 as well as the lower alternator bracket. We got the PCV can in under the Edelbrock intake by modifying the lifter valley tray, so no need to modify the valve covers. I just need to buy the oil filler tube. So, if all goes well, it should be in tomorrow..perhaps if we are lucky..it might even be running...
hate to point this out.. the tube goes in the front, see that bank circular area, just in front of the thermostat....that is where you have to drill and file to push the fill tube into.
then there is a half circle with a bolt hole through it piece that goes in the back, it also has a hose connection port for the PVC at the base of the carb.
