keep pluggin away, hopefully you don't have to many bugs to work out after start up. if any issues with start up just ask, help is close by, if i'm in town i'll take my car out sunday, my muncie is almost back in. Dan
I hear ya...hopefully it will just be a matter of dialling in the timing..we've serviced the TH350 before bolting it up, and replaced the U-joint on the drive shaft and fixed a bunch of little issues as we've gone in hopes of minimizing any post start-up issues..so hopefully she'll be ready to go for Sunday.
Keeping in mind that the new carpet won't be in yet, nor will the new shocks and springs...we won't even speak of the new rims and tires I want to get for her....
Well, the long weekend has passed and she's still in the garage..BUT, the intake is all ready to go with new holes for the oil filler tube and the temp sending unit. So that's good to go. Plus the new front suspension is pretty much done. So.. we just need to put it all together..figure out some minor vacuum routing issues and do the back suspension and install carpet and some gauges...and she's ready to cruise the mean streets of Winnipeg...LoL...shouldn't take long should it??
So, things are progressing nicely. Got all the new springs and shocks in the car, so the ride height is bang on. Had an issue with the new starter so it's been replaced under warranty. Got the new carpeting in the back, the back seat is in as well as the seatbelts. So now it's the front carpeting, front seats and console to go and the interior is done. Then it's set the valve lash, put the valve covers back on, wire the Tach, new oil pressure gauge and water temp gauge...and that should be pretty much it.....
Things didn't go well today..damn things seem like you get a step ahead and then you're 2 steps behind...hopefully it will be done before I move in July!!!!
No the engine is all in..having issues with the water neck/upper rad hose..need to get the swiveling type of neck...then need to get the valve lash sorted and the timing too...then on to wiring in the new gauges and finish off the carpet and seats...
And I realized the the console is in much worse shape than I thought..
Turns out the reason we has trouble with setting the valve lash was because I was sold big block rocker arms, instead of small block. Unfortunately, by the time we caught it they had already caused damage to the studs, so the heads have come off and are off to get new ones....
On the up side, I did manage to get my new quarter glass seals installed!
ok, who sent you those rockers, at least you figured it out while in your garage and not 100 miles from home. We all have had issues with our old rides, but we still like them. Dan
No worries Dan, I still love the car and can't wait to be driving it...
The issue is being fixed as we speak and will probably have her running by the end of next weekend..it was simply a mistake that was not caught until it was, unfortunately too late. As you say, it was good we caught it when we did and not while I was driving her to Edmonton.
Believe it or not we are STILL having issues trying to get this car running properly. Seems like it may be a Carb issue..the old Q-jet off the 307 is in desperate need of a rebuild..or is just screwed..so..going to try a different one tonight to see if it indeed the issue..if it is..then will look at getting a brand new, out of the box carb..probably and Edelbrock I guess....
i put an edelbrock on my 302 76 bronco 8 years ago and have never touched it since, keep us updated, i'm home all weekend if ya need help, going to take kids to the red river college show on saturday.
I unfortunately will be in Hamilton for a funeral all weekend..and I'm not too sure when the carb will be in as I think it's being ordered today, so probably won't see it until next week. However I can report that George Brazier Sr did stop by and help diagnose the hard starting/running extremely rich issues..it was a pleasure to watch someone set the timing by ear, and tell me exactly why the car was hard to start.. also a pretty nice guy...as is his son...
I have to say, I am EXTREMELY happy with the service I've recieved from Brazier's Race and Machine. If you are looking to get machine work done in Winnipeg..definitely give Jr a call!!
It was pretty cool..part of the reason I would recommend Brazier's to anyone needing machine work in the Greater Winnipeg Area. Jr also ordered my new carb for me..going with a Holley ..should have it on Monday...
Yup, hard to believe I know...but she's done..purring like a kitten...looks like I have a heater core replacement coming in the near future..but other than that all is good! Only 3 starters and 2 fuel pumps to get to this point..but god does it feel good to have her running again!
