Can anybody tell me if a powerglide speedo cable is the same as a muncie 4 spd one on a 64-67 Beaumont? I am having speedo issues. Thanks in advance, Paul.

I guess if it connects to the passenger side they are longer but the early muncie cars are on the drivers side so the cable reaches. I guess the gear in the trans might be hooped? Paul.

I changed the cable thinking it was defective but it still didn't work. So I put the car on my lift with the cable off the gauge and under the dash so I could what it it was doing as I ran the car in gear and it doesn't spin. It could be in the trans. Any advice? Paul.

Are you talking the gear under the 1/2 inch bolt where the cable attaches or in the tail housing itself? Paul.

Yeh that was my next step if the cables were the same. I hope it's not in the trans. Paul.

looks like you may need to do the same thing I do.. pull tail shaft housing.. then the "sleeve", or put one on. My tranny was missing the "driven" gear off of the cartridge when I got it. (the one that fits into the "sleeve" on the tail shaft)

Well what a job. This is how it played out. I changed the cable and it didn't work, pulled the plastic gear and it was stripped so I changed that and it turns again. Hooked it to gauge and it didn't work. So I find out that the gauge that looked mint is seized, toasted the cable, and stripped the gear. I had to pull the steering wheel, dash pad, dash, undo all the wiring and change the cluster. What a pain. I have never seen a seized gauge, especially one with no corrosion and minty looking. It's fixed after about 8 hours and a few swear words. Drove the car with my GPS and the speedo is perfect. I was wondering if it was internal to the trans but thank goodness it wasn't. Just in case somebody needs the plastic gear set up for there car in the future I have 245 60 14 tires with a 308 rear end, M-20 trans, and the plastic gear had 18 teeth. Thanks for all your posts. I'm almost there on this rag. I'm a non charging alterater away from being complete. Paul.

I have a similar problem. Mine is M22, the cable was 2 inches too short when I bought the car, and just temporarily tied to the trans, seller had an adapter, but I told him not to worry about it, as I'd get a longer cable. Well I had the dash out last year, so I connected the new cable, and still no speedo action. I havent tried to solve it yet. If its a seized speedo, then it is staying that way, but if its just a plastic gear then I'd replace it. The green plastic gear is visible and appears good. I was following this thread closely, but dash removal it out of the question.

Sometimes you can reach under the dash and spin the little wheel sticking out from the back of the speedo. If it spins then you'll know its the gear.

I just put a cordless drill on the trans end and checked if the gauge functioned. My gauge was locked tight. I managed to break it free but it still was not right. I also tried to pull the gauges from under the dash. What a mess. All in all if I just pulled the dash right away I could of saved myself a lot of time.
