I want to repaint the steel part of the dash on my '69 Buick GS. I don't believe they used gloss paint from the factory. Has anybody done this before? Could I use underhood black, or is that too much of a "mat" finish? I've been to the Eastwood site, but they only have vinyl/plastic paints. Would this stuff be ok for the steel part of my dash??
Years ago a friend did the top of his doors (inside) and dash on a 65 Nova. It was black. He used Plastikote "Hot Rod Black" which is a semi gloss. I tell you that was a virtual twin to my 65 Canso with black interior when we parked them side by side. If he wouldn't have told you he had painted it and you were comparing it with an original like mine, you would not have guessed it had been repainted.

I'll have to get some of that paint. All my interior parts have arrived, so I'll snap a few pictures and post them here when it's all back together. (Hopefully before Christmas)!
Just wanted to let you know I bought some of that "Hot Rod Black" paint. (2 cans). So far, I've done the "A" pillar covers, and they look fantastic! That paint is amazing. Can't wait to do the dash. Thanks for the tip....
No problem, glad I could help. I've used that stuff for about 25 years and I find it amazing how close it is to the original black interior metal paint on the 60's GM's.
