Never heard or seen of a 2 piece 68 Mld.Then again I am no expert.

i do have some of those 68 sd wheel openings somewhere, everyone uses 69 chevelle wheel well opening moldings but those 69 chevelle nos mouldings are real painful to cut, im sure 68 chevelles didnt have wheel well chrome.

This is from the 68 brochure and shows the front trim only going as far as the front eye brow or top of bumper and not all the way down as the 69 chevelle and Beaumonts.

Here is another 68 showing the trim not going all the way down on the front. Wondering were the two part comes in to play. the back  lower ? From what I have been reading in the chevelle forums the 68 wheel trim only came down to the body side crease front and back and not all the way like the 69. So I think 427 strato has something there that for the beaumont they had to add a rear peice to complete the trim all the way to the bottom of the oppening.

       I am not saying that the Beaumonts did not come with them  but it is odd that the Chevelles never had them and the Beaumonts did.Could very well be that GM Canada did make them though.Do any of the original dealer brochure`s show the mlds ?

i have seen short wheel well mouldings on 68 sd cars but it may have been an early production thing. i still have the therd 68 sd car off the line, i will look in the trunk it had all the side mouldings so maybe wheel well trim to.

 After many years away,"Barbara"can't disclose last name for copy right reasons made love again for the first time in a long while.After looking at the spare tire the topic came up again.Yes,they do have a different moulding.It is comfirmed.I am sold!smile

 O.K. so one person says the moulding ends on the front fender on eye brow,while another says that it tucks in under side moulding,while another says it's 2 piece,I'm reunconvinced.This is spooky!furiousfuriousfuriousfuriousGoing to call  Barbarabiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I haven't been down to Belmont to pick up the dumb pieces that are the subject of this discussion, however I did set out the part numbers for them on a previous post, I think.  I actually did further research on the internet to see if I could acquire addititional information on this topic.  Of course, I did, and I didn't note the site I was on, however anyone with a computer, which is obviously all of us, will be able to do the same better than I.  In 2000, the Chevelle group in the States had a similiar discussion with respect to 1968 wheel well chrome, however I didn't note the site.  There are a lot of people on here that will find this site much quicker than I will.  In any event, if I remember correctly, they decided that many of the 68 SS's did not come with wheel well chrome at all and others came with 2 piece chrome mouldings, and then again, there were those that decided because their 68's, that they bought as used cars, came with one piece 69 chrome, they had to be correct and were one piece. I thought this about my own car, however I was obviously incorrect.  This is a similiar issue that I am having with respect to what colour should 1968 rally wheels be.  Some say they should have been that gray with a greenish tint, which mine always had been, as my car has never been touched, and others say they should be Argent Silver, or whatever.  I have to make a decision with respect to the wheels in the next few days as I may get them powder coated to the colour I think they should be, ie the gray with slight green tint.  I don't think my spare wheel has ever been fooled with so I'm thinking of taking it to the powder coating place and seeing if they can match it. My car is likely going to be painted in the next few days and even the paint seems to be an issue.  We have been attemping to get, my body and paint guy, the original paint colour from Carquest in my City for at least two weeks.  They have scanned the original paint twice, which is on the inside of the door panel, and they keep coming up with the SS code, which is my Strato Chief colour.  The actual code is QQ, 1968 Verdoro Green.  I called a friend at Nappa and gave him the code this afternoon and he said, no problem; I will pick up the paint tomorrow.  We need to spray a light coat on the roof so the new vinyl top can be installed and the windows reinstalled and we will also know if the colour is correct.

 story of my life,my moulding is 3 to 4 inches too short,dealt a bad hand....or should i say,moulding.just goofin around!
