I was thinking about that yesterday. I don't think any time soon. I want to get the rest of the car back together and then do the engine swap last. And nothing personal but you can bet that engine won't be green when it goes in the GP! It will be Canadian Pontiac orange without a doubt!
And you said it should have a cam replacement, right? I think I would anyway. I like that 390 horse 427 cam. Just a hint of it's presence at idle and pulls nice to 5000 rpm.

Ya Chevy orange would be the way to go. Cam should be good but the lifters need to be checked/replaced. But a hotter cam in it would wake that motor up.

Updates have been zero on this project as I had someone interested in buying this car, and I would have been converting it back to an automatic for the sale. That didn't happen so forward we go!
You will see the true budget mode I am in. I made my own floor hump (using a small salvageable portion of an original one that was quite rusty) and got it fitted tonight. I had bought a repro boot for it (they are quite expensive). However, I was lucky enough to have a site member sell me a used one with a small split in it, so I sold the repro boot to another site member and will repair/install the used one.
If you have negative comments about my stitched together floor hump, keep them to yourselves!!! (Just kidding, I know it's not pretty, but this is a budget job!)
I almost forgot, I was also lucky enough to have someone sell me a patch to weld up the hole where the automatic shifter was. That got welded in tonight too as you can see.
It will all look prettier when it gets some paint on it!

I forgot I should have given you the retainer ring for the boot so you could make one of those too. Easy piece to make without it though too. nice boot

Remind me to bring it the next time I see you, I forget everything?

'Fraid it has to go up for sale. Alison is on track to earn her free car in 5 years and she would like a Firebird convertible. Unless she has a drastic lifestyle change, I will owe her a special interest car at 21 so there is no sense me keeping it. I have to sell it to buy her the car she wants.

I plan to start a thread in the classifieds later this week but it will likely be mid teens I'm thinking. I have to get out my calculator out and figure out how much of a bath I need to take on it!

Just no detailing to make it look like new on this one. Budget job and I'll clean things up a bit once I'm all done but none of this replate, repaint, rebuild every last component.
I really wish Vince was still around to see this. He sent me the entire pedal and clutch linkage conversion that really kick started this project.

And while I'm at the thank you's I also need to make sure I acknowledge all the help I've had from a couple of other B body guys here too (even though they are BOTH Chevy guys....), Andrew 2qwik2c and Dave 2drpost. Both those guys have helped me sort out a number of things along the way and Andrew has loaned and sold me pieces so I had samples when I needed to search for the right stuff or fab something up.

No, this car was a console shift automatic previously. If you look at the back of the hole at the top of the tunnel you can see some blue. That is the patch I welded in where the automatic hole was.
Once that is patched and you have your manual trans hump in position, just trace the outline like I did. Then I went around approximately 1" (maybe a touch less) in from the outside of the hump and that is where I cut the hole. I did this based on the floor holes I've seen on factory 4 speed cars with the hump removed.
I might have posted pics of that early on in this thread. Did you check back at the start of it?
