My buddy and I noticed this years ago, how some GM's you could pull the key out while the car is running. Every car we bought, we'd pull the key out. I remember my buddy grabbing the key with pliers and pulling it out while the car was in the run position. Don't know how bad this screwed anything up, but the car worked the same and he could pull the key out with it running.
