What do I have??? 8.2 or a 8.5

Not sure of the history but the inspection cover on the diff has 10 bolts and I am in the middle of sourcing some gear that are drivable!!! 4:88 does not fiar well on the road!!

Problem when it was apart i failed to measure  the ring gear. Is there a way to identify the 8.2 and 8.5 carrier?

Now after I find out if any one has a set of 3:????? let me know I am open to other ratios

Depending on tire height, 3.36 or 3.55 is what is out there for an 8.2 I believe.

Should be a casting number on your carrier to identify. If you can find that would help in ID.

Right hand threads on a 8.2 crown to carrier bolts. Left hand on the 8.5, the bolt will also have an L on it.

With 3.08 in my 65 Acadian and 14"tires, runs at 3000 rpm doing 100km/h.

Yes, sorry, I could have mentioned that the stock gear is 3.08 in these cars unless you have a wagon or a/c which use 3.36 gears.
