I call this photo "Big Motor Going for Rebuild". I talked to a good engine builder a year or so ago, hopefully they can squeeze me in with all their other work. I've pulled the entire valve train, loosened all the oil gallery plugs and water drain plugs. Heads are basically bare with valve covers on them, as I wanted to provide all the proper bolts and this way they can see all the head and valve cover bolts are there.
It's been a while since I reported in, but work has been progressing. Today I picked up the engine, and I call this "Big Motor Back From Rebuild". 1970 mid-year "3963512" block built to 450 hp LS6 specs, with ARP fasteners on the bottom end. I need to do some paint touch-ups, and check the fuel pump to carb lines I got, then it'll go in. I prefer to have all the brackets, pulleys, etc removed when installing or extracting an engine, they just get in the way.

I got the body panels all aligned (doors & front clip) got everything staged (exhaust manifolds ceramic coated, all the brackets and pulleys blasted and painted, etc) and ready to install once the motor is in. Will just need an exhaust system then ready to fire.
Did some paint touch up on the motor, and checked the fuel pump to carb lines, etc. (easier to do some of this while it's out of the car) Now ready to install engine/tranny combo.
It's been a long journey, but it's complete. After having the exhaust system installed, I fired up the engine a couple weeks ago. I've got about 400 miles on it now, and lets just say "It really goes". With all new steering, suspension & brakes it drives really nice, and putting the hammer down puts me back in the seat. Miraculously, the speedometer is bang on and didn't require any fiddling with the speedo drive gears.
With it now being a radio delete car, I've installed a vintage underdash FM unit. It works really well, but I prefer to hear the roar of the LS6.
Impeccable work as usual Clint, you've built a very nice car. I am curious to your choice to badge the engine as a Chevrolet though, although I'm sure you have a very good answer.

I tried a Pontiac 454 air cleaner decal which as you know are gold & black. It just didn't look right with the red Turbo Jet decal.

I've seen black and gold Astro Jet decals with HP ratings that match the Pontiac badge. Try Bruce Levey

Take the red decal off and it will look fine and take off the Chevy Tonnawanda decals
