I saw this car in Barrie one time. The owner wouldn't let me take a picture of it.

Sorry John. and we all know that GM Canada never makes mistakes either as evidenced in the following documentation:

Persian.jpg

The car for sale is in my opinion ALL original. I have seen the car with Hillar and we both agreed on this point. The current owner has had it 30 years. We inspected the front end and there is no evidence that this car was ever any different than you see it. Every time this topic comes up the experts say impossible yet pretty much everytime we see one of these cars with hide-a-ways it was built in Ste. Therese. Lets connect the dots.

CLICK HERE to read about another 68 Ste.Therese SS427 with hide-a-ways.

Oh ya, getting the documentation is easy when you have the VIN. This is one that didn't turn out but you get the idea.

A very neat car. Now how did you manage to get that paperwork when presumably the same owner didn't even want a picture taken of the car back 6 or 7 years ago when i saw it?

It has good options and the hideaways look really good on this body style.

I know this discussion is old news on hideaways but shouldn't it show up on the documents if it was built with them?

I've forgotten what the verdict was on that.

If they're not original it clearly shouldn't be advertised as such. Personally, I like the hideaways. It makes for a great looking custom!

There's been a debate over the hideaway installation question on the SS427 web site for years. Consensus there seems to be that only the Caprice got the concealed lights because it can't be proven that any othr model did. But there is a little bit of doubt especially around the Canadian cars known or thought to have the package from day 1. Who knows, maybe a COPO style addition in the Canadian plant?  But if so, why is it not on the GM documentation?  It would be be interesting to see a build sheet for one of these St. Therese cars with hideaway lights to see if anything was handwritten on the sheet re the concealed lights code as it progressed down the line. But regardless of how this car got the concealed headlights  they do look great on it.

I will agree that it looks great , just as a 2+2 would look with a GP front end.

Actually Geoff, the way he words it in the ad leaves a lot of the car's components pretty vague ... the grey zone.

to be honest i thought the add was a scam at first, big bucks, one picture and vague discription, id have a very detailed add, highlighting things like the orignal drive train ect..ect if i was looking to sell it..it is on the other hand a very cool car

Everyone is so preoccupied with the factory installed concealed headlights that no one has ripped the car yet for the chrome fender louvers, man you guys are slipping.

The hood pins in that beautiful hood would be my only criticism.  The rest of the car is great!  The paint probably fell off the louvers just like on 67 Beaumont louvers. Easy fix compared to the hood.

Does anyone have a picture of the cowl tag? That would show T83 if factory installed.

And regarding factory assembled T83 cars that were not Caprices...I've seen two in person, a SS427 custom coupe in a junkyard in PA. Been there since the 70's. Still had one of the headlight doors on it when my dad first found it. My dad also owns a 68 SS427 convertible with the original T83 setup. He bought the car in 78 from the 2nd owner, a kid who was driving it with a 68 vette 435 motor. The headlight setup was all intact when he bought it.

I also have a 1968 copy of the window sticker and the actual owner protection plan book from a plain 68 Impala convertible that was equipped with the option. It was built for the plant manager at Janesville and was one of a group built with the test run of TH350 transmissions. I'm sure others were made but how many? Less than 100? I'm surprised one hasn't surfaced in Canada with the docs yet. Seems like that's how some of these interesting Canadian cars are saved, when someone gets the docs, finds out what it has and buys/restores it.

If the car being discussed had them factory installed, it would def be on the Canada docs...and George probably would have made notation of "X # of 16xxx with T83". We should pool some money together and have him check the records for us. haha
