UPDATE:

So I came up with the following diagrams for the ammeter. At this point, however, I found a local gauge shop that can convert my ammeter to a volt meter, keep it looking stock and do it in a week. biggrin I thought I would post the info for others who might care.yawn

Based on the fusible link circuit, it appears that the '69 ammeter is a safe set-up with fusable links allowing for a reduction in wire gauge at the dash. Thanks for all the input on this topic!biggrin

Your figure 15-16 is the same as my figure 15-26, and your illustration 22 looks familiar, it's likely in my US parts catalog.   I think it shows things very well, and I likely made a mistake when I said 16 guage wire, they must be 14 guage as per the illustration.    Glad you were able to get the the bottom of this, as I'll also be doing the conversion one day!!!
