Power Seat, best place to power one?


Here's a photo of one of the ones that vendor "daschu99" is selling on ebay.  He has various lengths, including 23", 28", 43", 51" & 72".  The red end plugs into the fuse block, and it's keyed that it only fits in one spot on the fuse block.

Guys,

I'd like to install the power seat setup in my 67. Where would be the best place to get power from?

 

Can I come off the exsisting power window circuit breaker on the engine firewall. Use a big wire?

Add another firewall breaker?

Or come off the fusebox, somewhere that can take a good load? Add the breaker there?

 

How did the factory do it? I've never seen a wiring diagram illustrating how and where the B car seat was actually fed from.

I won't likely do it tonight but I can check the wiring diagram, at least I think I have it.

If it was me, I'd do as you suggested, off the power window breaker on the firewall and with a 10 gauge orange wire if you want it to be correct looking.

And if you want it REALLY correct looking, I think it's supposed to be orange with a black stripe.

There was a guy selling the proper wires on ebay a week or so ago.   Orange with the black stripe, and he had various lengths with the proper connectors on them.  I'll check my US 1970 Pontiac service manual, I'm sure it has wiring diagrams for the various electrical options.

Thanks Guys,

So it likely came off the block on a key switched fuse pin? If you can pinpoint where that would be great.

And I do know it's a heavy wire. During testing a short 18g of test lead got roasting hot!

Not key switched Mark, power seats are live in 67 as far as any of the GM's I've seen anyway.

 Yes, your right! I used to love adjusting the power seat in my dads car while it sat open in the driveway.
