Engine Size for '67 Beaumont

hi all,

If this is posted somewhere else I'm apologize.  Basically looking for help to identify the engine in my '67 Beaumont. I was having a hard time finding a block number, then someone suggested the 6X on the head would get me close. So I looked it up and it said it was a 400 with a vertical boss number of 8, indicating a large chamber head. So it seamed that I had a 400. however the same page said that the 6X "400" head was on a 350 block. Then Wikipedia said the 400 was basically a bored out 389, but spoke nothing of differences between the head and the block..... I'm very new to the car world and am a little confused. If anyone could shine a little tight on this it would be greatly appriceated, as I need to order parts, but until I know what engine I have it makes it difficult.

thanks,

J.

Theres a "pad' at the frt. of the pass. side cyl/ head on the block. you may have to loosen off the alt. & move it out of the way. If no # there, [replacement block] then you'll have to go to drivers side & look at the back of engine where trans hooks up [top side ] & see if you can get casting # off the back of engine, that will get you close but frt. # will "nail" it!!!

you are looking at a pontiac engine with 6x on the head,on the side of the cylinder block
under the exhaust manifold is the block size. This is different from a small block chev that was original in your car..(or maybe a 6 or maybe even a bigblock chev) But it sure sounds like a Pontiac engine youre describing.

sounds like the car that was advertised in stoon a few months back... It had the american pontiac 400 listed . I'm in prince albert as well James. PM me , I'd love to see your car and help you decode the engine. I have books for the pontiac and am familiar with them.

AND welcome to the site !!!

A  real Pontiac engine in a 67 Beaumont     that would be against the law?

A 400 Pontiac in a Beaumont?! Just plain wrong!lol But sometimes you just swap in what you have... We all certainly see a lot of sbc's in other brands...
