clutch linkage - fork- bearing.. the right stuff CARL S?


I recall Carl posting up some super detailed pics what worked for his clutch set up.

this Lemans I'm putting together came in pieces , so not sure what is what or the correct stuff?  

short fork, tall bearing is what I have with it , pivot ball looks to be short?   

the saginaw I have in the shed has the longer fork, short bearing.  the new 11" clutch kit I bought comes with the short style. 

 

 I tried searching the archives... but I never have luck with that ?

 

thanks...  I hope to slide the beast into the hole today !

A body would be different than B body.    B body pivot ball mounts on the bellhousing, A body is likey on the engine.

your correct, my Z bar ball is in the block. 

just trying to figure out if the T/O bearing goes with the short clutch fork.. I've been searching on the net...??

Not sure what you are asking for....A-body linkage pivots off the block, short ball stud in the bellhousing, clutch fork is the same as 64-72 Chevelle, 67-81 Camaro, and 68-79? Nova/Chevy 11. If you ordered a clutch and T/O bearing for Chevelle should be all good...only issue might be spline count on the disk.....

Thanks for the help... I think I found a site with what i was looking for.

 

sorry,  question was ... What length Is correct for the clutch fork? 

The one that came in the box of parts is shorter than the one I have with a Saginaw that came out of a 80 camaro.

Here's a pic , clean parts are what I'm going to use.

I actually using a 10 1/2 hays clutch instead now, switched to the power brute st10, and it is a course input,  I had already bought my 11" fine spline clutch kit... More spare parts,,,, it will go with the Muncie.

         x2       the release bearing depends on the pressure plate    

                    The long one is std performance  the short high perfomance    

                     e.g.  283 would be long  327-350 would be short

Well....glad I did a trial fit.. The short one created about a 20' skew in the push off the z bar.  Pulled er back out and put in the longer one with the short t/o bearing.  All good....

 

ill post pics pics when I get out of the shop.

THANKS Pascal !!!!  I have a 65 manual  ,  real hard to tell dimensions .. I have it figured out now , I think the new headers really threw a wrench into the mix !

 

ahhh,  I owe lunch or a few coffees for bringing the parts along !!!  THANKS !!!!

So you ended up using the dirty one out of the Camaro? What is the length from pivot center to push rod center? Was my info (Camaro the same as A body?) correct or was I full of BS?!

so.. I'll take some measurements...

longer fork of the 2 in the pic worked out to give 90' linkage line up.

I used a long ball in the block ? not sure if I needed to ?  the Z-bar comes pretty close to the block.

I used a new short bearing with the Hays clutch? with the shorter bar, seemed like I could use the taller one?  shouldn't have mattered.. as the pivot point to release bearing is the same????

 

I've had the engine up so I can get the headers in and out 3 times this am... finally have everything clearanced so the Z-bar swings freely......YEEEESH !!!!!!!

I had to walk away friday..very frustrated !

I ended up Z'ing the Z bar to get it all to clear the headers.. even after pounding the pi$$ out of them...

so.. after pulling and reassembling the clutch linkage.. I am happier.. BUT ,,, after doing a bunch of reading , It would be ideal to have a longer throwout bearing.  I've tried the local parts guys.. nadda..

I have the short one installed now 1 1/4".. and the long one that is 1 7/8" that  hits the bearing retainer on the tranny.

I think this is what I need to give me the ideal 5' on the clutchfork... or an adjustable one.  Doing this kind of job from midwest Canada is painful.. find everythng you need on the net.. just not local ! wink

 Thanks for the link, and the post for that matter....I have been looking for proper fork for my Beaumont, and following a used original on Ebay but wasn't sure it was the right one and the info on this site confirmed it....got it for 40 bucks!!!
