67-68 Bonneville column into a Parisienne?

Mark and I have been discussing columns and we are both curious if anyone has actually installed an American Pontiac column (67-68 B body) into a Canadian car?

I am betting it would fit but a guess is not good enough!

Man, I never would have guessed that. The cars looks so similar.

Shame about that. Makes it a lot tougher to find tilts for our cars.

I have a 66 US tilt that I planned to put in the GP. Guess I'll still try it but I won't get my hopes up now.

I tried the reversal in a '70 Catalina from a '69-'70 Canadian Pontiac... No go! So, I would doubt it..

No kidding eh? What were the issues on it? Obviously wiring would be easy to overcome. I'm assuming it's distance from the firewall to the dash, or firewall to steering gear?

Yeah, you never know. The 66 column is a whole different animal than 67 and up.

Now that I think of it, my former 4 speed car owned by our member Kevin in Ontario is sporting a tilt/tele from a 66 Caprice. It was a perfect fit except for a tiny bit of modifying where the collar fit the dash. The rest of the mechanical fit was perfect.

Not sure if that helps my 66 case at all, but it does tell me there is some common specs.

And back to the 67-68-

Does anyone have any experience with a column swap, Canadian Pontiac to Chevy or vice versa?

I have a tilt column from a 67 pontiac and one in my 67 ss427. I should do some measuring etc to see of they are exactly the same.

It seems to me the fit is good except that the collar between Chev and Canadian Pontiac is different by quite a bit.

Right where it hits the dash is the place to check if I am right.

All I can add is that the 63/64 American columns are diff than the chevys. Chevy one extends from the dash quite a bit further than the US Built!!!!

I just checked the columns and the collars are both the same where it would meet the dash. I measured them.

So with that and Vince having swapped a Caprice column into his Laurentian, it's likely very safe to say that 67-68 Canadian Chev and Pontiac B bodies are a straight swap.

Now I'd love to know if the Bonneville column will swap with those, because that Minnesota yard has at least 2-3 of those, all column shift.

And the next step will be to try the 66 Bonneville column in my GP.
