LED lighting for the dash panel.

HIi:   When my car was at the shop getting the Crate 350 I asked about checking into the dash lighting.

I at one point had the blue led bulbs put into the sockets for each light on the dash and was getting tired of poor lighting.  ((Colour of the car is blue))

I asked about putting in the clear LED bulbs while the car was there.  I had taken a spare dash assembly with me so they could see where the bulbs would go and also had a few extra sockets from the old dash.  One of the sockets was not working and I had a spare printed circuit on the extra dash which I thought they could use.

A few conversations took place in the shop and it was decided to put in a strip of LED lights inside the dash assembly.

From the photos you can see the vast improvement.   The lighting around clock is not the same as the speedo but I am willing to live with it.

I am sorry as I don't have any information as to how they got the strip of LED lights in the housing or any photos which would have been nice.

Do LED's dim the same as conventional bulbs as the voltage drops with the switch reostat? Although I have always had mine on max anyways.

Thanks for the info - I 'll be checking it it. I hate working under dashes - always come out with bloody fingers and forearms) but it'd be worth it.

I will see if I can get anymore information about the installation.

How they powered them,

How long the LED strip was.

How they put them into the cluster. -- Removed the plastic piece in front of the dash.

Did they remove the cluster to put them in

I will see what I can find out.

The printed circuit was not working for a couple of bulb locations.
I had a spare dash console which had the printed circuit on it but they decided the LED would be a better fit.

I allways wondered if you changed the dash bulbs to "red' what do you do about the "greenish" tinge covers that are in the stock dash where the bulbs go into dash [GM] all my aftermarket guages in 64 are red bulbs but dash has stock bulbs with the stock bulb lensa still in dash??? Pete

The LED red will overcome the green tinge

Checked in with Exceltec Auto today and found out that they had to remove the complete instrument cluster to put the LED strip in.

The front face (plastic cover) had to be removed as well

The strip was put on the outer shell of the cluster.   It may have been a bit short as it doesn't completely illuminate the clock.

No worry, when the car  comes out we will add some more LEDs to correct the problem.

Mine was the second one that they had done and since then have done a few more.

The original LED bulbs that I had placed in the socket were removed.
