Hey guys ....just a quick question, should a 66 389 out of a Bonneville have pushrod guide plates ? it still has the stock pressed in rocker studs. I just popped the valve covers off for probably the first time ever and found just one push rod guide plate in there for two push rods! any ideas?.....thanks j
Can't quote on 66 389 but I know my 64 doesn't have them!!! I changed over to later push rods that are hollow & rockers arms that have a hole in ball socket for P/rod, for better oiling to rockers. Org. get oiled up thru. the rocker stud!!! I'll check with a few guys that have 65 & up US Poncho's, that was a head & intake yr. change!!!

The Performance Years site is a really good resource for this question, frequent there all the time. Dont have any 389 heads but my 69 and 70 400s do have plates.

Nice job, I was going to say that engine 'looked" like if hadn't run in a long while, by how dry the rockers & P/rods looked, but then you answered it in next post!!!

the car sits 30 years in Arizona desert. The Engine block was very good...no scratches at the cylinder walls and it turns easy.. the Engine parts are all cleaned in an Special parts washing machine with high Pressure to degreaser and painted before assambled..so its looking dry..the Engine Runs only 115000miles ..
