RE: Restoring the 66 67 Grande Parisienne Console.

Are any of the small automotive "LED's" made anywhere other than...China?

I'd think the "Good" ones are likely from there anyway. Am I wrong to assume that?

Just to give you a heads up on the LED, some of them dont like invertors or battery chargers, must be the pulse of the curent? Foud out the hard way and blew up a few of mine and what a stink. Make sure if you going to hook up a charger to disconect the bat, just in case you open the door and all the interior lights come on. Some led's are 12v DC only and some are 12v AC/DC. Console is looking great by the way!!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll remember that.

Just rememberd what the differance was, buy the LED that is rated 12- 30 volts the 12 volt ones dont seem to like anything over 13-14 volt max. Hence wy they dont last long if your charging at 14.7. There a couple of $ more each but mine are 4yrs old and going strong.

"We" bought some LED bulbs for the daytime running lights, and the cab lights, on our 03 Silverado and they are excellent

Interesting and it makes sense. But where are you seeing this 12-30 volt rating? I've browsed quite a few different bulb sellers, USA and China, and different types on eBay, and have yet to see it.

Anyways...On another tangent, long shot, probably comical...but does anyone have a good used console rear lens?

I'm having a real hard time paying nearly $60..probably $70 shipped for this tiny piece of plastic!

On the lens note, you can get small pieces of white plastic from Indutrial Plastics, make it to the right lenght and width and put it in the oven at about 350. You will have to keep checking every 30 sec or so once it's warm. When it gets to the point of being able to bend not brake form it around housing. Get a piece big enough to do a couple of test pieces. Have made a few things this way. If it gets too hot you will get air bubbles in the plastic. pic of my clock and lens I made

Nice job on the lens! Now you really have me thinking.

As for the bulbs, the more I read, the more I understand...and like you say, some of the issues simply to point to over voltage.

I found this company in the USA, and the bulbs seem to be of an extremely high quality, and a higher price to match. Most of the auto bulbs have a 14.5 rating as well.

I converted all my lights in my 5th wheel ( 16 ) with the ones from china, each bulb has 112 led,s and haven't had a problem since I switched to the 30 volt and like you say FREE SHIPPING. If you order the ones from the states, look on the box and see if it says made in china, might be the same LED.

Nope, same as Caprice but this one has no emblem where the Caprice has one.

Removed all the aluminum trim from the console.

Took some time as the trim is very delicate. The best thing to use is acetone. Pour it on the trim and let it penetrate and work around into the edges.

Begin by pulling up on a corner with a small hook. Then when it's up far enough, insert a flat thin scraper and begin gently working it up. Continue to replenish the acetone, let soak, repeat.

A heat gun also helps by warming the glue. but don't heat it too far as it just evaporates the solvent.

I have some Burlwood vinyl coming, and the plan is (if it looks fairly close to my dash) to apply it to the trim panels, then trim it precisely around the edges.

I'll then fit the panels is such a way that they could be easily lifted, if I change my mind at some point.

Here's a shot of the vinyl,

And I bit the bullet and paid stupid money for that lens....

I would have done' the same......I've worked with plastic and that sloping angle would require more than $50.00 in time and work to get right.

Sometimes the best choice is to pay "stupid money" for certain items.

Question; Does anyone make a repop automatic console shifter boot 66-67?

Mine is torn. Probably no big deal to patch repair it. Won't even ever know when it's all back together anyway. But if I could replace it I certainly would.

I poked around online just now, so far no success.

I am betting Andrew (2qwik2c) will know.

Wow, good, at least there is one if you decide to. I looked last night and couldn't even find one. I was sure someone must make it.

Thanks Carls,

Another "Stupid money" throw! No turning back now!

But it's nice that someone is producing it. I think mine was probably folded wrong when installed, so it sat distorted over the years and eventually tore when it got hard.

GM#3859856............From what I've found is that number also is the same for rubber shifter boots for 1967 Caprice and 65-67 Novas

You'll have to confirm this.

Thanks George. Now I won't have to go to Carl for more stupid money!

If you've found that number crosses between the two styles, then I'd say it's good.

The holes look to be in the same spot as Impala boot. And if the Nova shift arm is a flat bar and not round, then it's for sure.
