Lack of kick down will burn up a Power Glide as kick down controls transmission pressure so try not to try not to let the transmission shift early under acceleration. You can wire the linkage to the highest point you can tolerate until you get it fixed. Holding it in manual low until the shift point you desire is also helpful but let up on the gas until the shift is complete. Tough as Power Glides are, the lack of kick down will shorten their life considerably.
