1967 Tilt column dissasembly question,

Just received my floor shift 67 tilt from good member Dave (DaveJ).

And just like I did when I was eight years old, I immediately went to tearing it apart.

With some finessing, got the signal assembly out. Now how does the tilt collar slide off. I see no screws or clips? The collar is steel and the tilt body is die cast, so there is some corrosion between the two.

Anyone know how? Is there a trick?

I think there's supposed to be a screw on the side opposite the tilt release lever. Not sure of my scanned image can help because it's from a column shift, but it's the best I can do (I'm not the most knowledgeable member on CP.)

No screws. And thanks for the scan!

Pulled out my 67 Pontiac, Acadian, Beaumont chassis shop manual, and it does describe the tilt column disassembly.

Looks like some kind of adapter (I'm assuming) is slid in under the rolled edge of the cover, and then a clamp goes on the outside leading edge. They are then attached together to a slide puller.

See 67 Chassis, Steering 9-17, Fig 31.

The cover is slid off with a slidehammer...hmm

Unless I can McGiver something, I might be in over my head on redoing this one.

Cheers.

I see the figure but in my book that's a regular column. Anyway ... the instructions you mention are in the preceding pages. Let us know how it goes.
