Hi everyone.My buddy has a 68 Beau supposily with a 350 in it.Heres the kicker.They say the engine came out
of a 56 chevy,then put in it,the #s on the block said its a 350 but it only has 2 frost plugs on each side???
Anyone have an idea what this engine actually is or came from?Thanks for any info.

Casting number on the block, driver's side at the rear and stamping on the deck, passenger side front. That's the only safe way to ID a block. There's often lots of stories but the best thing to do it search the numbers.
Do you have the numbers, or if not, can you get them?

I wont be able to get #s till spring when he gets it to tk out engine.
Was woiundering cause of only 2 frost plugs.

The freeze plugs don't identify a 400 vs 350, if a 400 has only two freeze plugs on the side of the block it's a two bolt main, if there are three plugs on the 400, it's a four bolt main. The above identifiers are correct, the larger, relieved harmonic balancer, and the steam holes are giveaways. If you can see the flex plate, the 400 has weights on it, again for external balancing.
