Does anyone know the name or number of the orange that was used on the needles? It looks like flat paint. Anyone know sources for fresh paint? Will model paint work?
Sorry for being so slow on the update. I bought a jar of the Testors and tried it on the speedometer needle from a broken gauge cluster. Attached are some photos of the result. The original colour is the short one on the right and the Testors is on the left. I tried 3 different backgrounds to try and give a sense of the difference. The Testors is lighter and more orange than the original. As an aside, the Testors is an EXACT match to Ford truck gauges. I have tried 68 and 84 gauges and it matches both. It looks like the paint mix suggested is the solution for factory original.
Now that that is done. Anyone know what/where to get the blue for the gauge backgrounds?
Quote: "For those GM owners restoring gauges, our Fluorescent Red is close, but is a little more red than the colors found on Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile instrument needles. We recommend a mixture of 2/3 HiPo Parts Fluorescent Red and 1/3 HiPo Parts Fluorescent Orange to match the red/orange color found on early General Motors."
