I got fed up with my old dim headlights (sign of getting old I guess) and swapped in a set of halogen sealed beams. I want to check the adjustment on them. I put in new springs last year so I know they need to come down a bit. Anyhow, there's an old school spec (certain height at a certain distance from a wall). A retired mechanic told me once and for the likes of me I can't remember the spec. Anyone know this? Thanks.

When I got my convertible the headlights were aimed every which way. I just parked 20' or so from a cinder block wall, and aimed the headlights so they were forward, and not too high. You'll be able to get them close enough, and then by driving down a dark street or alley you'll be able to tell if they're about right.
Well John, I wasn't too technical with mine. I just parked in the driveway and set them horizontal on the garage door and then headed out about 5 minutes from home on a dark roadway. I came back and dialed them up a little higher and after testing high and low beam I felt comfortable where they were at. Been quite a few hours of night time driving since and haven't been flashed for them being too high so I figure I am close.
25 ft is the correct distance from a wall or the like. The vehicle should be on a lever surface, position masking tape vertically on the wall in reference to the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights. position a horizontal tape line in reference to the centerline of all the headlights. to do this park the vehicle a few inches away will make it easier. the book says that the gas tank should be half full and no heavy loads. Low beam should be about two inches below the horizontal line and to inches to the right of the vertical line. High beams intensity zone should be vertically centered with the exact center just below the horizontal line.
