Wanting to restore my 327 distributor. Is there much I should know?

I'm wanting to restore my 67 327 Distributor. It has pretty low miles on it, and it's converted over to the basic Pertronix breakerless system.

Is there much I can do to it (or need to do?)? I remember a post on this a ways back, but can't seem to find it.

Also, should I do a new dist. gear owing to the purchase of a new cam?

Any ideas?

Check for side play in bushings & make sure vac. adv. is working?? & plate not seized either! I've stuffed a lot of cams in over the years & never swapped a dist. gear unless it was in "need of a Dentist" !!!!

I would leave that gear on too. I don't ever recall (back in the day) seeing one of those gears needing replaced. I'd be scared of the quality of a new gear.

I've changed two gears on the last two Pertronix distributors I bought, owing to the fact they weren't "Melonized" and was recommended by the cam material.

I'm glad the stock gear should be fine.

Beneath the breaker plate is the area that holds grease for the distributor shaft. I wasn't sure what to use for grease, and someone suggested just using chassis grease. I did, and haven't had any problems, but wonder if I should have used something else.

Check for up and down play, I believe the play should be 030.

Had the 66 since about 83 and the 65 since 88.
Both still require a lot of work.
