does anybody know where I can get the proper length front emergency brake cable?I own a 1965 strato chief waggon
I ordered a inline tube E brake kit for a standard 65 impala.
Everything fit except for the front cable. I just got another one from car ID. The overall length is correct. But the collar that supposed to go through the Frame is too short again by 2 inches
Thanks
One other detail is it has a 67 Parisienne frame under it. I am pretty sure that makes no difference .
It looked identical to the 65 one I took out.
The GM parts book says 3870459 is the front cable. It fits 65-66 full size Canadian Pontiac as well as full size Chevrolet except with a TH 400 transmission. It's listed as 46 13/16" long. Does the length make sense with what you have? What transmission do you have?
I looked a bit online and Phillip's Musclecar Parts has one listed. I know nothing about that place but they show one in stock.
my new impala cable is 47 5/8 long. My Pontiac cable I ordered is 52 inches long. The Pontiac cable at 52 inches is long enough to reach my impala intermediate cable. But the sleeved portion of cable between firewall and frame exiting point is still too short. I found my old front cable and it has an extra 6 inches of sleeved cable between firewall and frame.
In looking at the comparison ,The old one, is quite a bit shorter it leads me to believe the old intermediate cable was probably longer on the Pontiacs.
I may have to order a custom one.
drat
you can see the difference in the old cable and the new impala one.
If you cannot buy off shelf, then these guys are the place. We did a full e brake system on my brother in laws 47 Chev pickup. They were top notch to deal with.
I have been harassing the guys at in line tube. I will give them a call tomorrow.Their technician was away.I sent them a photo also.I guess it's just a Canadian thing. I will inquire about the 1967 version though.
I will try controlcables if I have no luck.
Thank you for the advice and references.

We must have some members here with a 65-66 parts car with a good cable on it.
Yes, they do stand the test of time ... I have a couple from '64s.

Hi,
I still do have the old front cable and working . However it is 12 inches too short In contacting my new intermediate cable which is off the shelf 1965 impala sized. I didn't think when I started out that it would be so problematic . But I am winning three steps forward one step back.I just thought with everything new and shiny that a nice new and shiny front cable it would look really nice. It must be my magpie genetics. I will put a wire wheel to my old one and see if I can clean it up.I will take a look at it and see if I can sacrifice one of my two new cables to make up that difference for me. Seeing that freight costs are a little bit prohibitive in returning something state side. Quite often more than the purchase price. I have a safety cable kit and I can probably rig up something. My understanding is it's only about 15 pounds pressure to apply the e-brake at most.

Can't you measure the length of the outside housing of your old cable, and tell them what the measurement is? That way they can compare it to what their drawing indicates.
I Did that before they emailed back.Housing length and overall length plus photos with the old beside the new.It was like they didn't read my earlier info.In the end they wanted me to send them the old one.
