I tried the Testors route with poor results - most of the paint flaked off in a short time. I cleaned the part with degreaser but still got very poor adhesion. It was fine where there was some texture, but over glossy chrome, not so good. I couldnt bring myself to scuff up the chrome but if I had, Im sure it would have worked.
The paint from the factory must be self-etching or?
Does anyone know what the original colours were? The red on mine (and others) is almost orange but that could well be fading.
Somehow I didnt see all them until now. Im wondering if maybe the original colour is the same red Pontiac used on their spear, or maybe it was meant to match the red on the Canadian flag... The car stays in the garage unless its driving so probably last pretty well if I can get something to stick. Maybe a tiny brush from a model store - and a magnifying glass!
The trick in painting them is to put on lots of paint and then remove the excess with a lint free cloth soaked in reducer. Remove the first lot almost immediately and then come back in 15 minutes and remove more. Then back again just before it finally dries. Takes a bit of practice but works wonderfully.

They came out pretty good.
Good to use keen eyes and a steady hand!
They did turn out good.
