Can the standard B Body bench seat track be taken apart?

I'd like to pull my 65 seat tracks apart for a light cleanup and paint. ? I'm assuming that drilling out what appears to be a stop rivet (yellow circle) will allow the top slide off the base?

My worry is there some kind of spring or mechanism that will go flying.

Has Anyone done this?

I didn't think there are any springs inside but I've never taken one apart, sorry Mark.

Just my opinion, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go to for a cleanup and paint.  If the tracks still work well, why not just clean up and paint the exterior (maybe move the positions of the track between coats for full coverage), and after the paint is dry lube up the inner workings, let the lube soak in and drip for a week, and then clean lube off the outside?  Then you're not drilling rivets, etc.  Not sure if there are service instructions on greasing, but you could go in that direction as well.

I suppose if you're feeling adventurous, replacement seat tracks are probably not all that hard to find if the worst case scenario happens...

Just my thoughts, of course.  Proceed as you see best!  biggrin

Thanks guys, really, for the most part, I just wanted to blast and paint the feet. Guess I could just wire wheel them instead.

Spayed Gibbs oil on them a few days ago, and they are pretty free now. Were really stiff to start with.
