I think the in the coming weeks is that people expect to be confined to their homes for a long stay. And they don't want to be caught without TP.

Yeah, but why just TP?  I understand hand sanitizer, and the misconception about surgical masks, but why TP and not other food items?

I know, panic and logic are different things, but still...

Joe Rogan interviewed Mchael Osterholm is an internationally recognized expert in infectious disease epidemiology. He is Regents Professor, McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) . This guy seems to know his stuff. Well worth watching.

I like to look at it by the numbers;

With the worlds population estimated to be 7.7 billion. If you take the to-date est. of 130000 Covid cases, that makes it .0017% of the total world population infected.

Doesn't make it any better for those suffering, but to me, the number is extremely low when viewed this way.

If you look at the population of Canada, 36 million, with 118 to date cases, it's .00032% of our population.

It will absolutely rise, but if you look back at China, which is now seeing cases stabilizing and dropping off, with 1.4 Billion people, 80000 Cases to date, that is .0056% of the population.

Of the 80000 China cases, 3200 deaths is a 4% mortality rate for those infected. That high death rate number is the scary part.

Dont panic, be smart, stay safe and carry on.

Correct, if the assumption is made that it will soon stop spreading worldwide.  We don't know that yet, however.

We also should not disregard it as some are doing.  Better to be overcautious than sorry after the fact.  Panic is never valuable in any situation, unless perhaps you are being hunted by a lion or something... then it's time to panic!

Was planning to bring my nephews with us to Disneyland this spring break, looks like that isn't happening, they'll be crushed :(

Were already considering if we should cancel under the circumstances, looks like the decision was made for us.

Well the Big Smoke has gone into DEFCON 3 mode, 1 1/2 hour line ups in grocery stores, bread, canned goods, pasta and flour GONE! Gasoline at 82 cents and its filler up time all round.

Schools have been closed effective Monday in Ontario.

Gotta say that Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz single handedly put North America in a frenzy mode with his childish antics and caviler attitude when he sardonically touched every single microphone and recorder at a press conference concerning the Utah Jazz's response to the virus then tested positive for the virus.

he closed down the NBA and NHL and all that has followed today. Another example of an entitled spoiled millionaire who couldn't care less about the average persons' plight and struggles.

He was advised to issue an apology today, What a sad case.

I look forward to hearing someone with common sense and the facts explaining this. The way you guys talk, he's the man.

Based on the number of deaths at the seniors home in Washington state-19 I think- this is an actual and potential high risk virus for people at risk. Keeping it from spreading in the next month by closing down contact and travel is likely the right thing to do to contain the spread.

At all these events , people travel and bring new viruses to areas without them, stop travel for a while.

Something you guys may want to do is see if you can get extra prescription meds. A co worker takes blood pressure meds and the pharmacy was out. They were able to give her a months worth but they are double the strength of her prescribed dose so she has to cut them in two. My wife is also on BP meds and she called the pharmacy and was able to get another 3 months worth. From what I understand many meds come from overseas and if there's a supply disruption you may run out. Your pharmacist should know if your meds are at risk.

I take a few herbals that seem to be keeping my gout away (over a year since an attack!). One herbal is Quercetin. Well I read a report that scientists were having "some success" using it to treat the virus. I figured I better order some just in case people decide to buy it to try to treat the virus. Too late! I usually pay $37 for 240 capsules on Amazon. Now they are $74! Geeze.

One other thought, this virus seems to be easy to get, judging by say the Prime Ministers wife getting it, after all the news about protecting yourself. And lots of other examples.

Growth in North America is exponential at this point. Hard to imagine that eventually all provinces will not be affected.

Ontario members, do you think attendance at the spring swap meets and car shows will be affected? Appreciate feedback.

I had planned to do a little swap meet touring in April and May in Ontario and bordering US states. I have abandoned the idea of going to the US for now; in light of these development I'm trying to trying to decide if I will stay home this year or make the trip just to Ontario.

That's true, Carl.

Also, I listened to an interview yesterday of a journalist who was there during the press conference when Gobert touched all the microphones.  He said that everybody is misinterpreting the situation after the fact.

Apparently, the distance was set up to protect the NBA players from the media, and not the other way around.  He said that Gobert is a very friendly guy, and somewhat of a character, and that his intention was to show the media that he was with them by showing he wasn't concerned about catching the virus from the media members, most of which he is on a first name basis with.  Of course he had no idea that he had the Covid-19 virus at the time, and thus had no malicious intent with what he did.  Just poor judgement.

As is often the case these days, with 20-20 hindsight everybody is reacting in a negative way towards him... probably because negative news sells advertising.  Add in the social media whack jobs and you get where we are today.

It's quite amazing to me how much effect shutting down sports leagues has had.  Up to Wednesday night, there was concern about Covid-19, but I think most people were somewhat blasé about it.  Suddenly, no more sports... OMIGOD!  I have to go out and stock up on toilet paper!!!

Overall, I think it's a good thing that people are taking this seriously.  This has the potential to be something bigger than it already is, so taking precautions now will slow it down, or at least 'flatten the curve' to reduce the strain on our health care system.  I do think that the seeds have already been planted for it to be everywhere eventually.  People are not shutting down their travel plans either, it seems, unless they are forced to.

Stay safe out there!

Here in Milton, paper towels are literally being hauled off in shopping carts full. Carts with noting but paper towels in them. I am laughing because these folks are probably going to use this instead of toilet paper. Well, they better get use to using a toilet snake or calling a plumber, when their toilets are constantly plugging up. Wow things are really getting nuts out there.

This video is well worth spending the one hour and a half watching it. The most informative not only with corona virus but also other concerns as well. I learned a lot watching this on so many levels. Check it out, you will be thankful you did. Thanks for sharing this Todd.

You'd think the stores would put limits on these items. Here in Montague PEI the parking lots at both Superstore and Sobeys are full.

My Wife and I were actually planning a flight to Newfoundland for fun ... not now (unless things change).

I was going to fly to Ontario early summer ... I think I'm going to drive (even though I hate the drive from here to there). I want to stay off planes, because even at the best of times, 50% of the time I catch a illness after flying.

My Wife said Sobey's in Summerside was a zoo. A friend in the Peterborough, Ontario area said his Costco was sold out of meat! confuse

I think the next Ontario get together will have to be at someone's shop.

Love to have you come.
